Tactab MCP server
by Ahtasham00
Let your AI see and click around in your own Chrome tab, take screenshots, and fill in forms for you.
Tactab is a free helper that connects your AI assistant to your Google Chrome browser. Once it is set up, your AI can look at the page you have open, take a picture of it, read the text, click buttons, and fill in forms. It is handy if you spend your day in a browser and want your AI to do the boring clicking for you.
What is an MCP server? The 30-second version
On its own, your AI can only chat with you. An MCP server is a small helper program that gives your AI a new skill. This one gives your AI a connection to your Chrome browser, so it can see the page you are on and do things there when you ask. You stay in control because it only works on your own computer, and only on the tab you have open.
What this MCP server does
You ask your AI something like look at my current tab and tell me what is on it. Your AI passes that request to the Tactab helper running on your computer. The helper talks to a small Chrome add-on you installed, and that add-on looks at the page you have open. It sends back a screenshot or the page text, and your AI reads it and answers you in the chat. If you ask it to click or fill something in, the add-on does that in your tab and tells you it is done.
What you can do with it
- Take a screenshot of the tab you have open
- Read the text, title, and links on a page
- Click a button or a link by name
- Fill in a form field with a value you give it
- Scroll the page up or down
- Open a new web address in your current tab
- Pull out a list of items like product titles and links
Try asking your AI
- “Take a screenshot of my current tab and describe the layout.”
- “Summarize what is on this page in a few bullet points.”
- “Fill in the email field with test@example.com and click the Next button.”
- “Extract all the product names and links on this page.”
What it gives back to you
You get answers in your normal chat with the AI. That might be a written summary of the page, a screenshot image, or a list of items like links and titles. When it clicks or fills something in, it tells you what it did so you can check the tab yourself.
Before you start
What you need
- Google Chrome on your computer
- Node.js installed (a free program that runs the helper; the README says to run npm install)
- The Tactab Chrome extension loaded from the project folder
- Your AI app set up to use MCP servers, like Claude Desktop or Cursor
Good to know
It can click buttons and fill in forms in your real browser tab, so check what your AI is about to do before letting it act on important pages like banking or work accounts.
Install it with your AI
Add Tactab MCP server to your AI, no technical skills needed
You don't install anything by hand. You copy one prompt, paste it into an AI that can work on your computer, and it checks, installs and connects the server for you, asking you when it needs something.
Sign in to get the install prompt
Members get a ready-made prompt that lets the Claude desktop app check Tactab MCP server, install it and connect it for them, step by step. You don't need any technical skills: you copy, paste and answer a few questions. Your connected AI can also find and install any of the 4,361 MCP servers here for you.
Who it's for
Office workers who live in a browser all day and want their AI to read pages, take screenshots, and do simple clicking and form filling for them.
