Music Video Toolkit MCP server
Your AI can analyze a song's BPM and key, plan beat-synced shots, and make Spotify Canvas clips.
This is a small set of music video tools that run on your own computer. It listens to a song file and tells you useful things like its tempo, its key, and the best 15 or 30 seconds to use as a short clip. It is handy for musicians, AI music makers, and anyone putting a song on TikTok, Reels, Shorts, or Spotify Canvas.
What is an MCP server? The 30-second version
On its own, your AI can only chat. An MCP server is a small helper program that gives your AI a new skill or a connection to something else. This one connects your AI to a local music video toolkit, so it can look at your song files and do the math for you. You just ask in normal words, and the AI uses this helper behind the scenes.
What this MCP server does
You ask your AI something like which 15 seconds of your song to use for TikTok. The AI passes your request to this helper program on your computer. The helper uses ffmpeg, a free video and audio tool, to listen to the file and work out the tempo, key, and loudest part. Then it hands the results back to your AI, and your AI explains them to you in the chat. Nothing is uploaded anywhere, and you do not need an account.
What you can do with it
- Find the BPM, key, and Camelot code of a song
- Spot the most energetic 15 or 30 second window for short clips
- Plan a shot list where every cut lands on a bar line
- Turn a video clip or a still image into a Spotify Canvas file
- Look up the right size, length, and format for each platform
- Get the steps to make a full lip-synced video from a song and one photo
Try asking your AI
- “Analyze ~/Music/demo.mp3 and tell me which 15 seconds to use for TikTok.”
- “Plan a 16:9 music video for this song with a cut on every bar in the chorus.”
- “Make a Spotify Canvas from the first 6 seconds of ~/Videos/teaser.mov.”
- “What size and length should my video be for Instagram Reels?”
What it gives back to you
You get back plain answers in the chat, like the tempo in BPM, the key, and the best clip window as a start and end time. For planning, you get a shot list with a visual idea for each section. When you make a Canvas, it writes a small video file on your computer and tells you where it saved it.
Before you start
What you need
- Node.js 18 or newer
- ffmpeg installed on your computer (a free tool for audio and video)
- The Claude desktop app or another app that supports MCP servers
Good to know
The tempo and key are estimates, so check them against a tap tempo if your song has tempo changes or a loose groove.
