Precis MCP server

Precis is a data quality tool for spreadsheet files like Excel, CSV and TSV. It checks your tables against rules you set, such as "this column must be unique" or "this number must be between 1 and 100". It is handy for anyone who works with lists of data and wants to catch mistakes before they cause trouble.
What is an MCP server? The 30-second version
On its own, your AI can only chat with you. An MCP server is a small helper program that gives your AI a new skill. This one connects your AI to Precis, a tool that checks spreadsheet data on your own computer. Once it is set up, you can ask your AI to run a check and it will use Precis to do the work for you.
What this MCP server does
You ask your AI to check a data file, for example an Excel or CSV file on your computer. Your AI passes that request to the Precis helper. The helper runs the checks you set up, like looking for duplicate rows or values that are out of range. Then it sends the results back, and your AI shows you a clear report of any problems it found.

What it gives back to you
You get back a report of any problems found in your data, listed row by row. Each problem tells you which row and column it is in and what rule it broke. If everything is fine, you get a message saying the data passed. You can also ask for a draft list of the columns in a file.

- Python 3.12 or 3.13 installed on your computer
- The precis-cli package installed with the mcp option
- An AI assistant that supports MCP, like Claude Code or Cursor
