Shahnameh MCP server

by aliafsahnoudeh

Lets your AI look up sections, verses and explanations from Ferdowsi's Persian epic, the Shahnameh.

Flow diagram: you ask your AI “Show me the section about Rostam and Sohrab”, on your own computer the Shahnameh MCP server works with shahnameh helper, and you get back verses and explanations in chat.

This is a small helper that connects your AI to the Shahnameh, the Book of Kings, the long Persian epic poem by Ferdowsi. Once it is set up, you can ask your AI about its sections, verses and explanations and get answers in the chat. It is handy for readers, students, teachers and anyone curious about Persian literature.

What is an MCP server? The 30-second version

On its own, your AI can only chat with you using what it already learned. An MCP server is a small helper program that gives your AI a new skill or a connection to something outside the chat. This one connects your AI to the Shahnameh, so it can look up parts of the poem for you. You ask in plain words, and the helper fetches the answer.

What this MCP server does

You type a question about the Shahnameh in your AI chat. Your AI passes the request to this helper program running on your computer. The helper talks to a separate Shahnameh service behind the scenes, which reads from a database of the poem. The answer comes back to your AI, and your AI shows it to you in the chat. You never have to look things up yourself.

What you can do with it

  • Look up a section of the Shahnameh
  • Read verses from the poem
  • Get explanations of parts of the text
  • Ask about a character or a story in the epic
  • Find where a passage appears in the poem
  • Explore the poem by section or topic

Try asking your AI

  • “Show me the section about Rostam and Sohrab”
  • “What does the Shahnameh say about Zahhak?”
  • “Give me a few verses from the beginning of the poem”
  • “Explain the story of the seven trials of Rostam”

What it gives back to you

You get answers in your normal chat window: verses, short explanations, or a summary of a section you asked about. It can also list parts of the poem so you can pick one. Everything appears as text you can read, copy or ask follow-up questions about.

Before you start

What you need

  • A computer with Python installed
  • Node.js installed, for the test tool
  • The separate Shahnameh API running on your machine
  • The Shahnameh dataset database set up for that API

Good to know

This helper depends on a separate Shahnameh service and database running on your computer, so it will not work until those are set up.
