SOUL.md MCP server
by AntonioTF5
Check, score, and create SOUL.md files that describe an AI agent's personality and rules.

This is a small helper that lets your AI work with SOUL.md files. A SOUL.md file is a text file that describes an AI agent's personality, voice, values, and limits. If you are building or tweaking an agent and want to keep its identity tidy, this makes that job easier.
What is an MCP server? The 30-second version
On its own, your AI can only chat with you. An MCP server is a small helper program that gives your AI a new skill or a connection to something outside the chat. This one connects your AI to SOUL.md files, so it can read, check, and write those files for you when you ask. You do not need to know how it works inside. You just talk to your AI like normal.
What this MCP server does
You ask your AI something about a soul file, like checking one or making a new one. Your AI sends that request to this helper program running on your computer. The helper opens the file, compares it to the SOUL.md rules, or writes a fresh starter file. Then it sends the result back, and your AI shows it to you in the chat.
Click to zoomWhat you can do with it
- Check a soul file for mistakes and missing pieces
- Get a score from 0 to 100 on how complete a soul file is
- See which fields are filled in and which are still empty
- Create a starter soul file from an agent name and a few keywords
- Use the starter as a base and edit it yourself
Try asking your AI
- “Validate my soul file at ~/agents/marcus.soul.md”
- “Score my agent at ~/agents/startup-advisor.soul.md and tell me what's missing”
- “Generate a soul template for a climate scientist who specializes in carbon capture”
- “Make a starter soul file for a friendly customer support agent”
What it gives back to you
You get answers right in the chat. For a check, you see whether it passed and a list of any errors. For a score, you see a number out of 100, what is filled in, and what is still missing. For a template, you get the full starter file as text that you can copy and edit.
Before you start
What you need
- The Claude desktop app or another app that supports MCP
- Node.js installed on your computer (the free program that runs npx)
- A soul file on your computer if you want to check or score one
Good to know
The template tool writes a new file, so double check the name and location before you save it.
Install it with your AI
Add SOUL.md MCP server to your AI, no technical skills needed
You don't install anything by hand. You copy one prompt, paste it into an AI that can work on your computer, and it checks, installs and connects the server for you, asking you when it needs something.
Sign in to get the install prompt
Members get a ready-made prompt that lets the Claude desktop app check SOUL.md MCP server, install it and connect it for them, step by step. You don't need any technical skills: you copy, paste and answer a few questions. Your connected AI can also find and install any of the 4,066 MCP servers here for you.
Who it's for
People who build or tune AI agents and want a simple way to keep their agent's identity file in good shape.
