This is a helper that connects your AI assistant to Instagram. Once it is set up, you can ask your AI questions about your account, your posts, your followers, or your messages, and it will go and fetch the answers. It is handy if you run an Instagram account and want quick answers without clicking around the app.

What is an MCP server? The 30-second version

On its own, your AI can only chat with you. It cannot see your Instagram account or do anything inside it. An MCP server is a small helper program that gives your AI a new skill. This one connects your AI to Instagram, so when you ask about your followers or your latest post, the AI can actually go and look it up for you.

What this MCP server does

You ask your AI something about Instagram, like how many followers you have or what your last post did. The AI passes your request to this helper program running on your computer. The helper logs into Instagram with your account details and fetches what you asked for. Then the AI shows you the answer in plain words in the chat. It can also do things like post a photo or send a message, if you ask it to.

What it gives back to you

You get answers written in the chat, like a short summary of your follower count or a list of recent posts with their likes and comments. For lists, such as followers or search results, it gives you names and usernames in a readable format. If you ask it to post or send something, it tells you whether it worked. It does not show you raw code or numbers unless you ask for them.

An Instagram account with your username and password
The Claude desktop app or another AI app that supports MCP servers

Good to know

This helper logs into your real Instagram account and can post, comment, message and change your profile, so only use it with an account you are comfortable giving that access to, and avoid sending too many requests at once.
