Code Runner MCP server
by axliupore
Let your AI run small pieces of code in many languages on your own computer and show you the result.

This is a small helper that lets your AI actually run code, not just write it. You ask for something, the AI writes a short program, runs it in a safe box on your computer, and shows you what came out. It is handy if you want to check a calculation, test a snippet, or see what a piece of code really does without installing lots of extra software yourself.
What is an MCP server? The 30-second version
On its own, your AI can only chat. It can write code in the reply, but it cannot run it. An MCP server is a small helper program that gives your AI a new skill, and this one gives it the skill of running code. Here the helper takes the code your AI wrote, runs it inside Docker (a tool that runs programs in a sealed box so nothing on your computer gets messed up), and sends the result back so the AI can tell you about it.
What this MCP server does
You ask your AI something like "what does this Python snippet print?" or "run this and tell me the result". The AI writes the code and hands it to this helper. The helper starts a small sealed box with Docker, runs the code inside it, and waits for it to finish. When it is done, the helper sends the output back to your AI. Your AI then shows you the result in the chat, in plain words.
Click to zoomWhat you can do with it
- Run a short piece of code in a language like Python, JavaScript, or others
- Check what a snippet actually prints or returns
- Test a small calculation or logic idea quickly
- Try out code your AI just wrote for you
- See error messages from code without setting up a project yourself
Try asking your AI
- “Run this Python code and tell me what it prints: print(sum(range(10)))”
- “Can you run this JavaScript snippet and show me the output?”
- “Test this small function and tell me if it works”
- “Run this code and show me any error messages”
What it gives back to you
You get the output of the code back in the chat, as text. If the code printed something, you see that. If it failed, you see the error message instead. Your AI usually adds a short plain-language explanation of what the result means.
Before you start
What you need
- Docker installed and running on your computer
- An AI app that supports MCP servers, like the Claude desktop app
- This MCP server added to that app
Good to know
It runs code on your computer, so only use it with code you trust, and remember that anything the code does happens inside Docker on your machine.
Install it with your AI
Add Code Runner MCP server to your AI, no technical skills needed
You don't install anything by hand. You copy one prompt, paste it into an AI that can work on your computer, and it checks, installs and connects the server for you, asking you when it needs something.
Sign in to get the install prompt
Members get a ready-made prompt that lets the Claude desktop app check Code Runner MCP server, install it and connect it for them, step by step. You don't need any technical skills: you copy, paste and answer a few questions. Your connected AI can also find and install any of the 4,066 MCP servers here for you.
Who it's for
Anyone who wants to try out small pieces of code with their AI without setting up a full programming environment, especially people learning or checking quick ideas.
