THIRI Chord Intelligence MCP server

by BluesPrince

Your AI can analyze chords, name roman numerals, build voicings, and reharmonize progressions correctly.

THIRI is a music theory helper for your AI. It answers chord and harmony questions with real calculations instead of guesses. It is handy if you write songs, study jazz, or use AI to make music and want the theory to be right.

What is an MCP server? The 30-second version

On its own, your AI can only chat. An MCP server is a small helper program that gives your AI a new skill or a connection to another service. This one connects your AI to THIRI, a music theory engine. So when you ask about a chord or a progression, the AI sends the question to THIRI and brings back the correct answer.

What this MCP server does

You ask your AI something like what notes are in a chord or how to reharmonize a progression. The AI passes that to the THIRI helper. THIRI does the music theory math and sends back the spelled notes, roman numerals, voicings, or a new chord progression. Your AI then shows you the result in the chat.

What you can do with it

  • Analyze any chord to get its root, quality, intervals, and roman numeral
  • Resolve a chord into correctly spelled notes, frequencies, and MIDI numbers
  • Generate instrument-ready voicings like rootless, shell, or drop-2
  • Voice-lead one chord into the next and get a score
  • Reharmonize a progression using techniques like tritone substitution or Coltrane changes
  • Get scale recommendations for a chord in a key

Try asking your AI

  • “Analyze Dm7b5 in C.”
  • “What notes are in C7sus4?”
  • “Give me a rootless Cmaj7 voicing, then voice-lead into Dm7.”
  • “Reharmonize Dm7 G7 Cmaj7 with Coltrane changes.”

What it gives back to you

You get clear answers in the chat: the spelled notes of a chord, its roman numeral and function, a list of voicings, or a new chord progression. For voicings you also get a voice-leading score. Everything is computed, so the notes and labels are correct.

Before you start

What you need

  • A free API key from build.thiri.ai/developers (a kind of password that lets the helper talk to THIRI)
  • The Claude desktop app or Claude web, or another AI tool that supports MCP servers
  • Node.js 18 or newer if you install the local helper with npx

Good to know

The hosted version does not play audio; only the local conductor helper can render sound, and it needs your API key.

Install it with your AI

Add THIRI Chord Intelligence MCP server to your AI, no technical skills needed

You don't install anything by hand. You copy one prompt, paste it into an AI that can work on your computer, and it checks, installs and connects the server for you, asking you when it needs something.
