VMware ESXi MCP server
by bright8192
Let your AI list, create, clone, start, stop, and delete VMware virtual machines, and check their performance.

This is a small helper program that connects your AI assistant to VMware ESXi or vCenter, the software many companies use to run their virtual machines. Once it is set up, you can ask your AI in plain words to look at your virtual machines or make changes to them. It is handy for anyone who helps look after servers, even if you are not a VMware expert.
What is an MCP server? The 30-second version
On its own, your AI can only chat. An MCP server is a small helper program that gives your AI a new skill or a connection to another system. This one connects your AI to your VMware ESXi or vCenter setup, so the AI can look up your virtual machines and carry out tasks there when you ask. You stay in charge: the AI only does what you tell it to do.
What this MCP server does
You ask your AI something about your virtual machines, like which ones are running or how much memory one is using. The AI passes your request to this helper program. The helper then talks to your ESXi or vCenter server using your login details. It brings the answer back and shows it to you in the chat. If you ask it to make a change, like starting a machine, it does that on the server too.
Click to zoomWhat you can do with it
- List all your virtual machines
- Create a new virtual machine with a set amount of CPU and memory
- Clone an existing virtual machine or template into a new one
- Start, stop, or restart a virtual machine
- Delete a virtual machine
- Check CPU, memory, storage, and network usage for a machine
What it gives back to you
You get answers in the chat, like a list of your virtual machines with their names and power state, or numbers for CPU, memory, storage, and network use. When you ask for a change, it tells you whether the action worked. You do not get files or reports, just clear text answers and confirmations.
Before you start
What you need
- A VMware ESXi or vCenter server you can log into
- The address, username, and password for that server
- Python 3.7 or newer on the machine where you run the helper
- An API key you make up yourself, used as a password for the helper
Good to know
This helper can create, clone, and delete virtual machines on your real servers, so a wrong request can remove something important; always double check before saying yes.
