This is a helper that connects your AI assistant to finlight, a service that collects financial news from around the world. Once it is connected, you can ask your AI about a company, a market, or a topic and get back recent articles with sentiment and company tags. It is handy for anyone who follows markets, reads news for work, or needs a quick sense of what is being said about a stock.

What is an MCP server? The 30-second version

On its own, your AI can only chat with you using what it already knows. An MCP server is a small helper program that gives your AI a new skill or a connection to an outside service. This one connects your AI to finlight, a financial news service, so the AI can look up articles and details there for you. You just ask in normal words, and the AI uses this helper behind the scenes.

What this MCP server does

You ask your AI a question about financial news, like what is happening with a certain company. The AI sends that request to this helper, which talks to the finlight news service. finlight searches its collection of articles and sends back matching ones with details like the source, the language, the date, a sentiment score, and any companies mentioned. Your AI then reads those results and gives you a summary or a list right in the chat.

What you can do with it

  • Search recent news about a specific company or ticker
  • Filter articles by source, country, language, or date range
  • Get a sentiment score for a topic or a stock
  • See which companies are mentioned in an article, with their tickers
  • Look up a single article by its web address
  • List the news sources finlight covers and where they are from
  • Compare how different sources cover the same story

Try asking your AI

  • “What's the latest news on NVDA? Summarize the sentiment.”
  • “Any market-moving headlines in the last 2 hours?”
  • “Compare news coverage of the Fed decision across sources.”
  • “Find recent articles about semiconductor export restrictions and list the companies mentioned.”

What it gives back to you

You get back a list of matching articles, each with a title, source, date, language, and a sentiment score. For each article you also see the companies mentioned, with their tickers and other identifiers. Your AI usually turns this into a short summary or a bullet list in the chat. If you ask about one specific article, you get its full details.
