MemoryDetective MCP server

by carloshpdoc

Lets your AI read iOS memory files to find leaks and suggest Swift fixes.

MemoryDetective is a helper that reads the memory files Xcode makes when an iPhone or Mac app leaks memory. It finds the leaks, tells you what kind of mistake caused them, and suggests a fix in Swift. It is handy for iOS developers who want to hunt leaks from their chat window instead of clicking around in Xcode.

What is an MCP server? The 30-second version

On its own, your AI can only chat. An MCP server is a small helper program that gives your AI a new skill or a connection to another tool. This one connects your AI to MemoryDetective, which reads iOS memory and performance files. So when you ask about a leak, the AI can look inside those files and answer with real findings.

What this MCP server does

You ask your AI something like "what is leaking in this memory file?". The AI passes your file to MemoryDetective. MemoryDetective reads the file, finds the leak cycles, and matches them against known Swift and SwiftUI patterns. It then sends back a short summary with a suggested fix, which the AI shows you in the chat.

What you can do with it

  • Find memory leak cycles in a .memgraph file
  • Classify a leak against known SwiftUI and Combine patterns
  • Suggest a one-line Swift fix for a leak
  • Compare two memory files to check if a fix worked
  • Analyze performance traces for hangs and slow spots
  • Read MetricKit crash files from TestFlight or the App Store
  • Search your Swift project for the code causing a leak

Try asking your AI

  • “I exported a memory graph at ~/Desktop/myapp.memgraph. What is leaking?”
  • “Compare before.memgraph and after.memgraph and tell me if DetailViewModel dropped.”
  • “Profile my app on the simulator for 60 seconds and find the hangs.”
  • “I have a folder of MetricKit crash files. What is catching real users?”

What it gives back to you

You get back a short summary in the chat, not a giant file. It lists the leak cycles it found, names the pattern each one matches, and gives a suggested Swift fix. For comparisons, it shows you numbers like how many objects dropped from before to after.

Before you start

What you need

  • Node.js 18 or newer installed on your computer
  • A memory file (.memgraph) or trace file (.trace) from Xcode, or the app running on a simulator
  • An MCP client like Claude Desktop, Claude Code, Cursor, or Cline

Good to know

It only reads files and suggests fixes; it does not change your code by itself, so always review the suggestion before applying it.

Install it with your AI

Add MemoryDetective MCP server to your AI, no technical skills needed

You don't install anything by hand. You copy one prompt, paste it into an AI that can work on your computer, and it checks, installs and connects the server for you, asking you when it needs something.

Sign in to get the install prompt

Members get a ready-made prompt that lets the Claude desktop app check MemoryDetective MCP server, install it and connect it for them, step by step. You don't need any technical skills: you copy, paste and answer a few questions. Your connected AI can also find and install any of the 4,066 MCP servers here for you.
