AiDex MCP server
by CSCSoftware
Give your AI a lasting memory of your code so it can find functions fast and remember what you did.

AiDex is a helper that gives your AI assistant a memory of your codebase. Instead of searching through files every time, your AI looks things up in an index that AiDex builds once and keeps. It is handy if you work with code in tools like Claude Code, Cursor, or VS Code Copilot and you are tired of the AI forgetting everything between chats.
What is an MCP server? The 30-second version
On its own, your AI can only chat with you. An MCP server is a small helper program you connect to your AI, and it gives your AI a new skill. AiDex is that helper, and its skill is knowing your code. Once connected, your AI can look up functions, files, tasks, and notes in your project instead of guessing or reading everything from scratch.
What this MCP server does
You ask your AI something like where a function is defined. Your AI passes that question to AiDex. AiDex looks in its saved index of your project, which it built by reading your code once. It sends back just the few matching spots, with file names and line numbers. Your AI shows you the answer, and it uses far less of its memory than if it had searched everything itself.
Click to zoomWhat you can do with it
- Find where a function, class, or variable is defined in your project
- See all the methods in a file without reading the whole file
- Search across several projects at once to see if you wrote something before
- Find code that changed in the last hour, day, or week
- Leave a note for yourself that survives to your next chat session
- Keep a to-do list of tasks with priorities and tags
- Collect live logs from a running program so your AI can look at them
Try asking your AI
- “Where is PlayerHealth defined in this project?”
- “Show me all the methods in src/Engine.cs”
- “What did I change in the last two hours?”
- “Have I ever written a function called TransparentWindow in any of my projects?”
What it gives back to you
You get short, focused answers in the chat. Usually that means a list of file names with line numbers, or a summary of a file's classes and methods. Sometimes it is a list of tasks, notes, or log lines. It is not a wall of text, which is the point: your AI keeps its attention for the actual work.
Before you start
What you need
- Node.js version 20 or newer installed on your computer
- An AI assistant that supports MCP, such as Claude Code, Claude Desktop, Cursor, Windsurf, Gemini CLI, or VS Code Copilot
- A project folder on your computer that you want your AI to know about
Good to know
It reads your project files to build its index, so be careful about pointing it at folders with secrets or private data you would not want your AI to see.
Install it with your AI
Add AiDex MCP server to your AI, no technical skills needed
You don't install anything by hand. You copy one prompt, paste it into an AI that can work on your computer, and it checks, installs and connects the server for you, asking you when it needs something.
Sign in to get the install prompt
Members get a ready-made prompt that lets the Claude desktop app check AiDex MCP server, install it and connect it for them, step by step. You don't need any technical skills: you copy, paste and answer a few questions. Your connected AI can also find and install any of the 4,066 MCP servers here for you.
Who it's for
Developers and anyone who uses an AI coding assistant on a real project and wants it to stop forgetting things between chats.
