Grafema MCP server
by Disentinel
Lets your AI explore your codebase as a map, so it can trace calls, data flow and structure without reading every file.

Grafema reads your project and builds a map of how everything connects: which function calls which, where data comes from, what depends on what. Once that map exists, your AI can ask questions about your code instead of opening files one by one. It is handy if you work in a codebase that has grown big enough that nobody remembers how it all fits together.
What is an MCP server? The 30-second version
On its own, your AI can only chat with you; it cannot see your project unless you paste things in. An MCP server is a small helper program that gives your AI a new skill or a connection to something, in this case to Grafema, which has already mapped your code. You add Grafema as an MCP server, and then your AI can ask Grafema questions like who calls this function or where does this value come from. Grafema answers from its map, and your AI explains the answer to you in plain words.
What this MCP server does
You install Grafema and run one command that scans your project and builds a graph of it. Then you tell your AI editor to use the Grafema MCP server. When you ask your AI something about your code, the AI sends that question to Grafema instead of reading files. Grafema looks it up in its graph and sends back the answer, which your AI turns into a normal reply for you. The result is usually faster and more complete than having the AI read files one by one.
Click to zoomWhat you can do with it
- Find who calls a function across the whole project
- Trace where a value comes from and where it flows to
- Get a short overview of what a file contains
- Look up why a piece of code is the way it is, from linked notes
- Check whether your architectural rules are still respected
- Search for a node by an approximate name when you are not sure of the exact spelling
- Generate documentation or an API description from the live graph
Try asking your AI
- “Who calls handleRequest in this project?”
- “Where does req.user come from and where does it go?”
- “Give me a short overview of src/server.ts”
- “Why is the auth-middleware written this way?”
- “Are any of my architectural rules broken right now?”
What it gives back to you
You get answers in your chat: lists of callers, short file summaries, traces of where a value came from, or a yes/no on your rules with the spots that break them. Sometimes it returns a generated document or an API description you can save. The answers come from Grafema's map of your code, not from reading every file, so they can be quicker and cover more of the project.
Before you start
What you need
- Node.js 18 or newer
- macOS (Apple Silicon or Intel) or Linux (x64 or ARM64). Windows is not supported
- An AI editor or assistant that can use MCP servers, like Claude Desktop or a compatible coding tool
Good to know
Grafema is early access (v0.4.1) and its analysis will not cover everything on day one, so treat its answers as a strong hint rather than the final word.
Install it with your AI
Add Grafema MCP server to your AI, no technical skills needed
You don't install anything by hand. You copy one prompt, paste it into an AI that can work on your computer, and it checks, installs and connects the server for you, asking you when it needs something.
Sign in to get the install prompt
Members get a ready-made prompt that lets the Claude desktop app check Grafema MCP server, install it and connect it for them, step by step. You don't need any technical skills: you copy, paste and answer a few questions. Your connected AI can also find and install any of the 4,066 MCP servers here for you.
Who it's for
Developers and engineers working in large or unfamiliar codebases who want their AI to understand the structure of the project, not just the text of individual files.
