MongoDB Lens MCP server
by furey
Lets your AI explore, query and change your MongoDB databases in plain English.

MongoDB Lens is a small helper program that connects your AI assistant to a MongoDB database. MongoDB is a place where apps store their data, and this helper lets your AI look inside it, ask questions and make changes for you. It is handy if you work with data and would rather describe what you want than write database code.
What is an MCP server? The 30-second version
On its own, your AI can only chat. An MCP server is a small helper program you run on your computer that gives your AI a new skill. This one gives your AI a connection to MongoDB, so it can look things up and make changes there when you ask. You stay in the chat, and the helper does the database work behind the scenes.
What this MCP server does
You tell your AI what you want in normal words, like listing databases or finding orders from last week. The AI passes that request to MongoDB Lens, which talks to your MongoDB database. The helper runs the query, gathers the results and hands them back to the AI. The AI then shows you the answer in the chat, as a list, a table or a short summary.
Click to zoomWhat you can do with it
- List your databases, collections and the documents inside them
- Find documents that match conditions you describe
- Count, group and summarize your data
- Insert, update or delete documents
- Create indexes to make slow queries faster
- Export query results as JSON or CSV
- Check database and collection statistics
Try asking your AI
- “List all databases I can access”
- “Show me the 10 most recent orders in the orders collection”
- “How many users signed up last month?”
- “Find all products with a price above 100 and sort by name”
What it gives back to you
You get answers in the chat: lists of databases or collections, matching documents, counts and summaries. It can also hand back exported files in JSON or CSV. When it makes a change, like inserting or updating a document, it tells you what it did.
Before you start
What you need
- A MongoDB database you can connect to, plus its connection address (a URI)
- Node.js installed on your computer
- An MCP client such as the Claude desktop app or Cursor
Good to know
It can change or delete your data, so be careful with requests that update, drop or remove things and check the confirmation prompts before saying yes.
Install it with your AI
Add MongoDB Lens MCP server to your AI, no technical skills needed
You don't install anything by hand. You copy one prompt, paste it into an AI that can work on your computer, and it checks, installs and connects the server for you, asking you when it needs something.
Sign in to get the install prompt
Members get a ready-made prompt that lets the Claude desktop app check MongoDB Lens MCP server, install it and connect it for them, step by step. You don't need any technical skills: you copy, paste and answer a few questions. Your connected AI can also find and install any of the 4,066 MCP servers here for you.
Who it's for
Anyone who works with MongoDB data and wants to explore or edit it by chatting instead of writing database code.
