Hive Crypto MCP server

by hive-intel

Ask your AI about crypto prices, wallets, DeFi and token safety, with sources shown for each answer.

Hive is a helper that connects your AI assistant to live crypto and Web3 data. Instead of guessing, your AI can look up prices, check a wallet, or test whether a token looks risky. It is handy for anyone who follows crypto at work, from analysts to founders to curious office folks.

What is an MCP server? The 30-second version

On its own, your AI can only chat with what it already learned. An MCP server is a small helper program that gives your AI a new skill or a connection to an app or service. This one connects your AI to Hive, which gathers crypto market, wallet, DeFi and security data from many sources. When you ask a question, your AI uses this helper to fetch fresh answers and show where they came from.

What this MCP server does

You ask your AI a normal question, like the price of Bitcoin or whether a token is safe. Your AI passes that request to the Hive helper. Hive then talks to its data sources, such as price feeds, wallet trackers and security checks, and pulls the latest numbers. It sends back a tidy answer with the source, the time it was fetched, and a small receipt so you can see it is not made up. Your AI shows you the result right in the chat.

What you can do with it

  • Check the live price of a token in US dollars
  • Look up a wallet's balances and portfolio value across chains
  • Scan a token for honeypot or rugpull risk before you sign anything
  • Browse DeFi yield pools and protocol totals
  • Explore NFT collections, floors and recent sales
  • See exchange order books and funding rates
  • Search across many crypto data sources in one request

Try asking your AI

  • “What is the price of BTC, ETH and SOL right now in USD?”
  • “Show me the portfolio of vitalik.eth across all chains.”
  • “Is this token address a honeypot? Give me the risk flags.”
  • “List the top 20 yield pools above 10% APY on Ethereum.”

What it gives back to you

You get back plain answers in the chat: prices, lists of tokens or pools, wallet balances, risk verdicts, and short summaries. Each answer comes with the source name, the time it was fetched, and a small receipt. If data came from a backup source or was cached, it says so instead of hiding it. You can also ask for a detailed format when you want more fields.

Before you start

What you need

  • An AI client that supports remote MCP connections, like Claude, Cursor or VS Code Copilot Chat
  • No account needed to start: the free lane allows 25 data calls per day per address
  • A Hive API key from hiveintelligence.xyz if you want your own quota (the free plan needs no card)
  • For local use: Node.js installed, plus optional provider keys if you want to use your own data sources

Good to know

It can read public crypto data and, with your explicit approval, make changes in Hive, so treat any request that changes something with care.
