Lets your AI browse Reddit, search posts, and look up user profiles for you.

This is a small helper that connects your AI assistant to Reddit. Once it is set up, you can ask your AI things like what is trending on a subreddit, or what people are saying about a topic, and it will go look it up for you. It is handy if you follow online discussions for work, research, or just curiosity.

What is an MCP server? The 30-second version

On its own, your AI can only chat with you using what it already knows. An MCP server is a small helper program that gives your AI a new skill or a connection to an app or service. This one connects your AI to Reddit, so it can look up posts, comments, and user profiles when you ask. You do not need to be technical to use it, you just add it once and then talk to your AI like normal.

What this MCP server does

You ask your AI a question about Reddit, like what is popular in a subreddit or what people said in a thread. Your AI passes that request to this helper program running on your computer. The helper talks to Reddit and brings back the posts, comments, or profile details. Your AI then reads that information and gives you a clear answer in the chat. It only reads things, it never posts or changes anything on Reddit.

What you can do with it

  • Browse hot, new, or top posts from any subreddit
  • Search Reddit for discussions about a topic
  • Read a post together with its comment thread
  • Look up a user's karma, posts, and active subreddits
  • Ask for plain explanations of Reddit terms like karma or AMA
  • Sort results by time range, like the past week or year

Try asking your AI

  • “What is trending on Reddit right now?”
  • “Search Reddit for discussions about remote work”
  • “Get the comments from this Reddit post: reddit.com/r/technology/...”
  • “Analyze the Reddit user spez and tell me what they post about”

What it gives back to you

You get back a tidy summary in the chat: lists of posts with titles, scores, and comment counts, or a breakdown of a user's activity. For a post, you get the text plus the top comments. Your AI reads all of it and answers your question in normal sentences, so you do not have to dig through Reddit yourself.

Before you start

What you need

  • The Claude desktop app or another AI assistant that supports MCP servers
  • Node.js installed on your computer (the setup instructions cover this)
  • Optional: free Reddit app credentials for search, comments, and user profiles

Good to know

It only reads Reddit, so it cannot post or change anything, but without free Reddit credentials it can only browse and will be slower and show fewer details.

Install it with your AI

You don't install anything by hand. You copy one prompt, paste it into an AI that can work on your computer, and it checks, installs and connects the server for you, asking you when it needs something.
