This is a small helper program that connects your AI assistant to Twitter. Once it is set up, you can ask your AI to check your timeline, look up someone's tweets, or send a message, and it will actually do it on Twitter for you. It is handy if you manage a Twitter account and want to save time on everyday reading and posting.

What is an MCP server? The 30-second version

On its own, your AI can only chat with you. An MCP server is a small helper program that gives your AI a new skill, in this case a connection to Twitter. You install this helper on your own computer, and it uses your Twitter login to talk to Twitter on your behalf. After that, when you ask your AI something about Twitter, it quietly asks this helper, and the helper goes and gets the answer or makes the change.

What this MCP server does

You type a request in plain words, like asking to see your timeline or to post a tweet. Your AI passes that request to this helper program running on your computer. The helper then talks to Twitter using your saved login details. Twitter sends back the tweets, replies, or confirmation, and the helper hands that back to your AI. Your AI then shows it to you in the chat in normal language.

What you can do with it

  • Read your Twitter home timeline
  • Fetch recent tweets from any public Twitter user
  • Search for tweets that use a specific hashtag
  • Get replies to a tweet and a short summary of them
  • Send and read your Twitter direct messages
  • Post a new tweet for you
  • Delete one of your own tweets

Try asking your AI

  • “Show me my Twitter home timeline from today”
  • “What has @someuser been tweeting about this week”
  • “Find recent tweets with the hashtag AI and summarize what people are saying”
  • “Post a tweet saying I just shipped a new project”
  • “Delete my last tweet”

What it gives back to you

You get back normal chat answers: lists of tweets, short summaries of what people are saying, or replies from your messages. When you ask it to post or delete something, it tells you whether the action worked. Everything shows up right in the conversation, so you do not have to open Twitter yourself.

Before you start

What you need

  • A Twitter account with API access (Twitter gives you login credentials for apps)
  • Python 3.11 or newer installed on your computer
  • The uvicorn tool installed (a small program that runs the server)
  • Your Twitter login saved in a cookies file and a .env file with your API credentials

Good to know

This helper can post and delete tweets and read your direct messages, so be careful with what you ask it to do and check before letting it change anything on your account.
