Dev Error Explainers MCP server

by mahdibrr

Your AI can look up a pasted developer error and explain the cause and the fixes, offline.

This is a small helper that lets your AI explain common developer errors. You paste an error message, and it tells you why it happens and what to try. It is handy if you build websites or apps and keep running into confusing error text.

What is an MCP server? The 30-second version

On its own, your AI can only chat with you. An MCP server is a small helper program that gives your AI a new skill or a connection to something useful. This one connects your AI to a set of written rules about known developer errors, so when you paste an error, the AI can look it up and give you a real explanation instead of guessing. It runs on your own computer and does not send anything anywhere.

What this MCP server does

You paste an error message into your chat with the AI. The AI sends the text to this helper. The helper compares it against a fixed list of known errors, like CORS problems, npm dependency conflicts, Next.js build failures, and database connection issues. If it recognises the error, it sends back the cause, a ranked list of fixes, and often a link to the official documentation. If it does not recognise the error, it says so instead of making something up.

What you can do with it

  • Explain a CORS error from your browser console
  • Diagnose an npm ERESOLVE peer dependency conflict
  • Decode a failing Next.js build output
  • Check a Postgres or Supabase connection string
  • Explain ESM and CommonJS import errors
  • Find why a database connection is refused
  • Check a ChunkLoadError against your response headers

Try asking your AI

  • “Why am I getting this CORS error in Chrome? Access to fetch at https://api.example.com from origin http://localhost:3000 has been blocked by CORS policy”
  • “Explain this npm error: npm ERR! ERESOLVE unable to resolve dependency tree”
  • “My next build is failing with window is not defined, what does that mean?”
  • “Can you check this DATABASE_URL for me? postgres://user:pass@db.example.com:5432/mydb”

What it gives back to you

You get a short explanation in the chat: what the error means, why it happens, and a ranked list of fixes to try. Many answers also include a link to the official documentation. If the error is not recognised, it tells you that plainly so you know the answer is not a guess.

Before you start

What you need

  • Node.js 20 or later on your computer
  • The Claude desktop app or another AI assistant that supports MCP servers

Good to know

It only knows a fixed list of errors, so it will say it does not recognise anything outside that list, and it never guesses.

Install it with your AI

Add Dev Error Explainers MCP server to your AI, no technical skills needed

You don't install anything by hand. You copy one prompt, paste it into an AI that can work on your computer, and it checks, installs and connects the server for you, asking you when it needs something.
