qBittorrent MCP server
Lets your AI check and manage your qBittorrent downloads for you, with safety limits built in.
This is a helper that connects your AI assistant to qBittorrent, the program many people use to download torrents. Once it is set up, you can ask your AI things like which downloads are stuck or slow, and it will look them up in your qBittorrent for you. It is handy if you already run qBittorrent and want to manage it by chatting instead of clicking around.
What is an MCP server? The 30-second version
On its own, your AI can only chat. It cannot see your computer or your apps. An MCP server is a small helper program that gives your AI one new skill, here the skill of talking to your qBittorrent. So when you ask about your downloads, your AI passes the question to this helper, the helper asks qBittorrent, and the answer comes back into your chat.
What this MCP server does
You ask your AI a question about your torrents, like what is downloading or what is stuck. The AI uses this helper to send that request to your qBittorrent, which is usually running on the same computer. qBittorrent answers, and the helper passes the answer back. Your AI then explains it to you in plain words, or, if you asked for a change, makes that change for you. Anything that could delete or change something needs your clear confirmation first.
What you can do with it
- List your current downloads and their progress
- Check which torrents are stuck or slow
- Add a new torrent from a link or magnet
- Pause or resume downloads
- Look at your categories and tags
- Check the health of the swarm for a torrent
- Delete a torrent, only after you confirm
Try asking your AI
- “Which of my torrents are stuck right now?”
- “Show me everything downloading in the TV category.”
- “Pause all my downloads for now.”
- “Add this magnet link to my Movies category.”
What it gives back to you
You get answers in your chat: lists of torrents with their names, sizes, progress and status, or short summaries of what is healthy and what is not. If you asked for a change, it tells you what it did. Numbers and names come straight from qBittorrent, so they match what you would see in the app.
Before you start
What you need
- qBittorrent running, usually on the same computer
- Your qBittorrent WebUI turned on and reachable
- Your WebUI username and password, or an API key if you use qBittorrent 5.2 or newer
- The uv tool installed (a small program runner; the setup page explains it)
Good to know
It can pause, delete or change your torrents, and deleting can also remove the downloaded files, so keep read-only mode on if you only want to look, and always read the confirmation before saying yes.
Install it with your AI
Add qBittorrent MCP server to your AI, no technical skills needed
You don't install anything by hand. You copy one prompt, paste it into an AI that can work on your computer, and it checks, installs and connects the server for you, asking you when it needs something.
Sign in to get the install prompt
Members get a ready-made prompt that lets the Claude desktop app check qBittorrent MCP server, install it and connect it for them, step by step. You don't need any technical skills: you copy, paste and answer a few questions. Your connected AI can also find and install any of the 4,609 MCP servers here for you.
Who it's for
People who already run qBittorrent and want to check or manage their downloads by chatting with an AI instead of clicking through the app.
