Screenpipe is a program that quietly records your screen and sound on your own computer, then lets you search it later. This MCP server is the bridge that lets your AI assistant look through that history for you. It is handy if you often lose track of a tab, a document, or a meeting you half-listened to.

What is an MCP server? The 30-second version

On its own, your AI can only chat with you using what it already knows. An MCP server is a small helper program that gives your AI a new skill or a connection to something outside the chat. This one connects your AI to Screenpipe, which is running on your own machine and keeping a searchable record of your screen and audio. Once connected, you can just ask your AI a question and it will go look it up in that record for you.

What this MCP server does

You ask your AI something about your recent work, like what you were looking at or what was said in a call. The AI passes that question to this helper, which talks to Screenpipe on your computer. Screenpipe searches its local record of screen text and audio transcripts and sends back matching moments. Your AI then turns those results into a plain answer, sometimes with screenshots or audio clips attached.

What you can do with it

  • Search your screen history in plain language
  • Summarize what was said in a recent meeting
  • Recall a page or document you saw earlier today
  • Get a recap of what you worked on
  • Find a window or app you had open at a certain time
  • Pull up recent context before you start a task

Try asking your AI

  • “What did I see in the last 5 minutes?”
  • “Summarize today's conversations for me.”
  • “Find that pricing page I looked at this morning.”
  • “What was I working on right before lunch?”

What it gives back to you

You get answers in the chat, written in normal sentences. Depending on what you asked, it can also show matching screenshots, audio clips, or short text snippets from your history. For a meeting question, it might give you a short summary of who spoke and what was decided.

Before you start

What you need

  • The Screenpipe app installed and running on your computer
  • Node.js installed (the free tool that runs npx commands)
  • An MCP-compatible AI app such as Claude Desktop or Cursor

Good to know
