CyberChef MCP server

by noor202401938-netizen

Lets your AI decode, unscramble and inspect suspicious text, tokens and hashes for you.

This is a helper for your AI that handles the fiddly code-and-cipher jobs: decoding scrambled text, checking password hashes, reading login tokens, and spotting things like card numbers in a block of text. It is handy if you work in security, IT support, or just keep getting odd-looking strings you cannot read. You ask in normal words, and it does the decoding for you.

What is an MCP server? The 30-second version

On its own, your AI can only chat. It cannot actually run a decoding tool or look inside a scrambled string. An MCP server is a small helper program that gives your AI one new skill, and this one gives it a set of data-decoding and security-inspection skills. Once it is connected, your AI can hand a messy string to this helper and get a clean answer back.

What this MCP server does

You paste something that looks like gibberish, or a token, or a hash, and ask your AI what it is. Your AI passes it to this helper. The helper runs the decoding or checking steps in order, like peeling layers off an onion, and works out what the original text was. Then it sends a short, tidy result back, and your AI explains it to you in the chat. It can also do the reverse and scramble text back into coded form when you need that.

What you can do with it

  • Decode scrambled text that has several layers of encoding stacked on top of each other
  • Work out an unknown encoding automatically when you do not know where to start
  • Read a login token and show you what is inside it and when it expires
  • Measure how random a chunk of text looks, which hints at whether it is encrypted or packed
  • Identify what kind of password hash you are looking at and its settings
  • Find and hide sensitive details like card numbers, social security numbers and email addresses in a block of text
  • Make a dangerous web link safe to share by breaking it so nobody can click it by accident
  • Encode or decode text between plain, hex and Base64 forms

Try asking your AI

  • “This string looks scrambled, can you work out what it says: SGVsbG8gV29ybGQ=”
  • “Decode this login token and tell me when it expires”
  • “What kind of password hash is this and is it a strong setting”
  • “Check this paragraph for card numbers and email addresses and hide them”
  • “Make this link safe to paste into a report”

What it gives back to you

You get a short answer in the chat, not a file. Depending on what you asked, that might be the decoded text, a list of the pieces found inside a token, a number for how random the text looks, or the same text with sensitive parts blanked out. If it changed or scrambled something, it shows you the new version so you can copy it.

Before you start

What you need

  • Node.js installed on your computer if you want to run it locally (the free version from nodejs.org)
  • The Claude desktop app or another AI app that supports MCP servers
  • Nothing extra if you use the ready-made online address instead of running it yourself

Good to know

It only reads and transforms the text you give it, so it will not change anything on your computer, but do not paste real passwords, private keys or customer data unless you are allowed to share them with the AI you are using.

Install it with your AI

Add CyberChef MCP server to your AI, no technical skills needed

You don't install anything by hand. You copy one prompt, paste it into an AI that can work on your computer, and it checks, installs and connects the server for you, asking you when it needs something.

Sign in to get the install prompt

Members get a ready-made prompt that lets the Claude desktop app check CyberChef MCP server, install it and connect it for them, step by step. You don't need any technical skills: you copy, paste and answer a few questions. Your connected AI can also find and install any of the 4,609 MCP servers here for you.
