OtaKit MCP server

by OtaKit

Lets your AI check, upload and publish over-the-air updates for your Capacitor mobile app, with your approval.

OtaKit is a tool for sending updates to a mobile app without waiting for app store review. This MCP server lets your AI assistant look at your app project, prepare an update, and publish it after you say yes. It is handy if you build a Capacitor app and want help with the release steps.

What is an MCP server? The 30-second version

On its own, your AI can only chat with you. An MCP server is a small helper program that gives your AI a new skill or a connection to another service. This one connects your AI to OtaKit, so it can look at your app project and work with your OtaKit releases. You still ask in normal words, and the helper does the technical part behind the scenes.

What this MCP server does

You ask your AI to ship an update for your Capacitor app. The AI uses this helper to read your project and check whether the change is safe to send over the air. The helper then uploads the built web bundle to OtaKit and prepares a release. Before anything reaches a real device, it stops and waits for your approval. Once you approve, the release is published and devices pick it up on their next launch.

What you can do with it

  • Inspect your Capacitor project to see what would be sent
  • Check whether a change is compatible with the native app version
  • Upload a built web bundle as a new version
  • Publish a release to a channel after you approve it
  • Read how a rollout is going
  • Revert to a previous bundle if something looks wrong

Try asking your AI

  • “Look at my Capacitor project and tell me if this change is safe to send over the air”
  • “Upload my latest web build to OtaKit and prepare a release”
  • “Publish the prepared release to the staging channel”
  • “How is the current rollout doing? Any problems?”

What it gives back to you

You get plain answers in the chat, like what the AI found in your project, whether the change is safe, and what it uploaded. It also shows the release details and the health of a rollout in words and numbers. When it is about to publish something, it asks you first. After you approve, it tells you what it did.

Before you start

What you need

  • An OtaKit account (the hosted service at otakit.app has a free option)
  • A Capacitor mobile app project on your computer
  • Node.js 20.9 or newer
  • The OtaKit CLI, which the connect command fetches for you

Good to know

It can publish releases and revert bundles, so review what it plans to do before you approve, since those changes reach real devices.

Install it with your AI

Add OtaKit MCP server to your AI, no technical skills needed

You don't install anything by hand. You copy one prompt, paste it into an AI that can work on your computer, and it checks, installs and connects the server for you, asking you when it needs something.

Sign in to get the install prompt

Members get a ready-made prompt that lets the Claude desktop app check OtaKit MCP server, install it and connect it for them, step by step. You don't need any technical skills: you copy, paste and answer a few questions. Your connected AI can also find and install any of the 4,609 MCP servers here for you.
