JoltSMS MCP server
by rchanllc
Lets your AI rent a US phone number, wait for an incoming text, and pull out the verification code for you.

This is a helper that connects your AI assistant to JoltSMS, a service that rents real US phone numbers. Once it is set up, you can ask your AI to get a number, watch for a text message, and read the code inside it. It is handy for anyone who has to verify a phone number on a website and does not want to use their own.
What is an MCP server? The 30-second version
On its own, your AI can only chat with you. An MCP server is a small helper program that gives your AI a new skill or a connection to an app or service. This one connects your AI to JoltSMS, so it can rent phone numbers and check the texts that arrive on them. You just ask in normal words, and the AI uses this helper behind the scenes.
What this MCP server does
You ask your AI to get a phone number, and it passes that request to this helper. The helper talks to JoltSMS, which rents a real US number for you. When a text arrives on that number, the helper can wait and watch for it, then pull out the verification code. Finally, it hands the code back to you in the chat, so you can type it into the website you are signing up for.
Click to zoomWhat you can do with it
- Rent a new US phone number with a chosen area code
- Wait for an incoming text message to arrive
- Read the verification code out of a text
- List your active numbers and see which ones have unread messages
- Label a number with the service it is used for, like PayPal
- Mark messages as read to keep the inbox tidy
- Check the billing status of your numbers
Try asking your AI
- “Get me a new phone number with area code 650 and wait for the verification code”
- “Do I have any unread texts on my numbers right now?”
- “What was the latest code that came in on my PayPal number?”
- “Show me all my active numbers and their billing status”
What it gives back to you
You get answers in plain chat text. That can be a list of your numbers, the details of one number, or the code pulled from a recent text. When it rents or releases a number, it tells you what it did. You can also ask for the most recent code and it will hand it to you directly.
Before you start
What you need
- A JoltSMS account with a payment method on file
- An API key from your JoltSMS dashboard (a kind of password for apps)
- Node.js 18 or newer on your computer
- Your first number ordered through the JoltSMS website to finish the initial card check
Good to know
Renting a number costs money (the README says $50 per month), so check what you are signing up for before you ask your AI to rent one.
