Repowise MCP server
by repowise-dev
Lets your AI answer questions about your codebase using a pre-built index instead of guessing.

Repowise is a tool that reads your code repository once and builds a map of it: which files depend on which, what changed recently, where bugs tend to live, and why things were built a certain way. Once that map exists, your AI assistant can use it to answer questions about your code accurately and quickly. It is handy for developers and anyone who works with a codebase and wants their AI helper to actually understand it.
What is an MCP server? The 30-second version
On its own, your AI can only chat. It does not know anything about your specific code unless you paste it in. An MCP server is a small helper program that gives your AI a new skill or a connection to a service. Here, Repowise acts as that helper: it connects your AI to a pre-built index of your codebase, so the AI can look things up and give you real answers instead of guesses.
What this MCP server does
You ask your AI a question about your code, like what might break if you change a file. Your AI sends that question to Repowise through the MCP connection. Repowise looks it up in the index it already built from your code, your git history, your tests, and your documentation. It sends back a focused answer with the relevant files, risks, and context. You see the result in your chat, and your AI can act on it.
Click to zoomWhat you can do with it
- Ask what breaks if you change a specific file or function
- Get a summary of what a repository does and how it is organized
- Find which tests cover a file without needing a coverage report
- See which files are most likely to have bugs based on history
- Look up why a piece of code was written a certain way
- Check the risk level of a set of changes before you merge them
- Find dead code and get suggestions for cleaning it up
Try asking your AI
- “Use Repowise get_overview to summarize this repository”
- “What breaks if I change src/auth.py?”
- “Which tests should I run for the changes in this branch?”
- “Which files in this repo are the most bug-prone?”
What it gives back to you
You get answers in your chat, written in plain language. Repowise returns lists of files, risk scores, test names, and short explanations. Sometimes it gives you a summary of a module or a set of changes. Everything is based on the index it built from your actual code, so the answers point to real files and real history.
Before you start
What you need
- Python installed on your computer
- Your code repository on the same machine
- An AI tool that supports MCP, like Claude Code, Codex, Cursor, or VS Code
Good to know
Repowise reads your code and git history to build its index, so it needs access to your repository files; it runs locally and does not upload your code by default.
Install it with your AI
Add Repowise MCP server to your AI, no technical skills needed
You don't install anything by hand. You copy one prompt, paste it into an AI that can work on your computer, and it checks, installs and connects the server for you, asking you when it needs something.
Sign in to get the install prompt
Members get a ready-made prompt that lets the Claude desktop app check Repowise MCP server, install it and connect it for them, step by step. You don't need any technical skills: you copy, paste and answer a few questions. Your connected AI can also find and install any of the 4,066 MCP servers here for you.
Who it's for
Developers, tech leads, and anyone who works with a codebase and wants their AI assistant to understand it without pasting in files manually.
