Janee MCP server
by rsdouglas
Lets your AI use your API keys and logins without ever seeing the actual secrets.

Janee is a small helper program that keeps your API keys and passwords safe on your own computer, and lets your AI use them without ever seeing them. It is handy if you want your AI to talk to services like Stripe, GitHub or Twitter but you do not want to paste your secret keys straight into the chat. Think of it as a locked drawer that your AI can ask you to open, without ever holding the key itself.
What is an MCP server? The 30-second version
On its own, your AI can only chat. It cannot reach out to Stripe, GitHub or your other tools. An MCP server is a small helper program that gives your AI a new skill or a connection to an app. Janee is that helper for your API keys: it sits between your AI and the services you use, and it adds the real key behind the scenes so your AI never has to see it.
What this MCP server does
You store your API keys once in Janee, on your own machine, in an encrypted file. When you ask your AI to do something like check your Stripe balance, the AI asks Janee for help. Janee looks up the right key, makes the request to Stripe for you, and logs what happened. Then it hands the answer back to your AI, which shows it to you in the chat. Your AI never sees the key itself, and you get a record of every request.
Click to zoomWhat you can do with it
- Let your AI call APIs like Stripe, GitHub or OpenAI without ever seeing your keys
- Set time limits on access so a key stops working after, say, one hour
- Keep a full log of every request with time, method, path and result
- Run command line tools with your credentials quietly injected in the background
- Give different agents different levels of access, or block some entirely
- Use short lived GitHub tokens instead of a long lived personal token
- Reload your settings without restarting the whole thing
Try asking your AI
- “Check my Stripe account balance”
- “List the open issues in my GitHub repo”
- “Post a tweet saying hello world”
- “Push my latest commit to the main branch”
What it gives back to you
You get back whatever the service returned, shown in your chat as a normal answer. For example, a Stripe balance comes back as a number, a GitHub list comes back as a list of issues, and a tweet post comes back as a confirmation. Janee also quietly writes a log entry for every request, so you can look back later and see what your AI did.
Before you start
What you need
- Node.js 18 or newer installed on your computer
- The API keys for the services you want your AI to use (Stripe, GitHub, and so on)
- An MCP capable AI app like Claude Desktop or Cursor
Good to know
Your AI can make real changes through Janee, like posting a tweet or pushing code, so only give it access to the services and actions you are comfortable with.
Install it with your AI
Add Janee MCP server to your AI, no technical skills needed
You don't install anything by hand. You copy one prompt, paste it into an AI that can work on your computer, and it checks, installs and connects the server for you, asking you when it needs something.
Sign in to get the install prompt
Members get a ready-made prompt that lets the Claude desktop app check Janee MCP server, install it and connect it for them, step by step. You don't need any technical skills: you copy, paste and answer a few questions. Your connected AI can also find and install any of the 4,066 MCP servers here for you.
Who it's for
People who want their AI to work with real services like Stripe, GitHub or Twitter but do not want to hand over their secret keys.
