camt053 MCP server

by sebastienrousseau

Let your AI read ISO 20022 bank statement files, check them, and build reversing entries for you.

Flow diagram: you ask your AI “Is my camt.053 bank statement file valid?”, the camt053 MCP server works in steps: read the file, then check the rules, then build the answer, and you get back answer in chat.

This is a helper that lets your AI work with ISO 20022 bank statement files, the standard XML format banks use for account statements (called camt.053 and camt.052). It is handy if you deal with bank statement files, payment returns, or bookkeeping exports and want your AI to read them instead of you opening the files by hand. You do not need to be a programmer to use it, but the files themselves are technical.

What is an MCP server? The 30-second version

On its own, your AI can only chat. An MCP server is a small helper program that gives your AI a new skill or a connection to something outside the chat. This one gives your AI the ability to read and check ISO 20022 bank statement files, and to build reversing entries from them. Once it is connected, you can just ask in plain words and the AI will use this helper behind the scenes.

What this MCP server does

You ask your AI something about a bank statement file, for example whether it is valid or which entries were returned. The AI passes your request to this helper, which reads the camt.053 or camt.052 file and works on it. The helper checks the file against the official rules, finds entries, checks IBAN, BIC and LEI codes, and can build a reversing entry. You then get the answer back in the chat, as a list, a summary, or a new file you can save.

What you can do with it

  • Read a camt.053 or camt.052 bank statement file and list its entries
  • Check whether a statement file is valid and what type it is
  • Check an IBAN, BIC, or LEI code for you
  • Find entries that carry a return reason code, like a closed account
  • Generate a reversing entry as a ready XML file
  • Convert older MT940 or MT942 statement text into the newer format
  • Export statement entries as Xero or QuickBooks journal data

Try asking your AI

  • “Here is my camt.053 file. Is it valid, and what type of statement is it?”
  • “List all the entries in this statement that have a return reason code.”
  • “Check this IBAN and BIC for me: is the format correct?”
  • “Create a reversing entry for the returned item in this statement.”

What it gives back to you

You get answers in the chat: lists of entries, validation results, a yes or no on an IBAN or BIC, or a summary of problems found. When you ask for a reversal or a conversion, it gives you a new XML document you can copy and save. Everything comes back as plain text or structured data you can read, not as a file on your computer unless you save it yourself.

Before you start

What you need

  • Python 3.10 or newer installed on your computer
  • The camt053-mcp package installed with pip
  • An MCP client like Claude Desktop, set up to run this server
  • A camt.053 or camt.052 bank statement file to work with

Good to know

It can create new statement files and change data, so always check the reversing entries and exports it produces before you use them for real.

Install it with your AI

Add camt053 MCP server to your AI, no technical skills needed

You don't install anything by hand. You copy one prompt, paste it into an AI that can work on your computer, and it checks, installs and connects the server for you, asking you when it needs something.

Sign in to get the install prompt

Members get a ready-made prompt that lets the Claude desktop app check camt053 MCP server, install it and connect it for them, step by step. You don't need any technical skills: you copy, paste and answer a few questions. Your connected AI can also find and install any of the 4,066 MCP servers here for you.
