GuardRail MCP server
by SECRET4422
Lets your AI check code and config text for secrets, risky patterns, and known weak spots before you ship.
GuardRail is a helper for your AI that looks over code and configuration text and points out risky things, like passwords left in the file or unsafe patterns. It is handy if you paste snippets into ChatGPT or Claude and want a second pair of eyes before you save or share them. You do not need to be a security expert to use it.
What is an MCP server? The 30-second version
On its own, your AI can only chat with you. An MCP server is a small helper program that gives your AI a new skill or a connection to something useful. This one gives your AI a security-check skill for code and config text. When you ask, your AI hands the text to GuardRail, GuardRail looks it over, and your AI tells you what it found.
What this MCP server does
You paste some code or a config file into your AI and ask it to check for problems. Your AI sends that text to GuardRail on your computer. GuardRail reads it and looks for things like secret-looking strings, dangerous function calls, and common mistakes in infrastructure files. It can also list the outside packages your project uses and flag ones with known issues. Then your AI shows you a short report with the findings.
What you can do with it
- Scan a code snippet for hardcoded passwords and API keys
- Check a config file for common misconfigurations
- Look for risky patterns like unsafe input handling
- List the dependencies in a project and flag known issues
- Scan a whole folder or a set of changed files
- Export findings in standard report formats your team can read
Try asking your AI
- “Check this Python file for secrets and dangerous calls: paste your code here”
- “Scan my docker-compose.yml for misconfigurations”
- “Look at the dependencies in this requirements.txt and tell me if any have known problems”
- “Review the files I changed in this folder for security issues”
What it gives back to you
You get back a short report in the chat: a verdict, a count of issues, and a list of findings with the file name and a short description. Secret-looking values are partly hidden so they are not shown in full. If you ask for a report file, it can give you one in a standard format your team can open.
Before you start
What you need
- Python 3.10 or newer installed on your computer
- The GuardRail program added to your AI app's settings (the README shows the exact lines to paste)
Good to know
It only reads the text you give it and does not run your code, but it can miss things and may flag harmless code, so treat its report as a hint, not a final answer.
Install it with your AI
Add GuardRail MCP server to your AI, no technical skills needed
You don't install anything by hand. You copy one prompt, paste it into an AI that can work on your computer, and it checks, installs and connects the server for you, asking you when it needs something.
Sign in to get the install prompt
Members get a ready-made prompt that lets the Claude desktop app check GuardRail MCP server, install it and connect it for them, step by step. You don't need any technical skills: you copy, paste and answer a few questions. Your connected AI can also find and install any of the 4,609 MCP servers here for you.
Who it's for
Developers, IT folks, and anyone who pastes code or config files into an AI and wants a quick safety check before sharing or shipping.
