xcodebuild MCP server
by ShenghaiWang
Let your AI build and test an iPhone or iPad app project and read the errors back to you.

This is a small helper that connects your AI assistant to the tool Apple uses to build iPhone and iPad apps. When you ask your AI to build or test an app project, it runs the build for you and reads the error messages. It is handy for people who write iOS apps and want help fixing build problems without copying error text by hand.
What is an MCP server? The 30-second version
On its own, your AI can only chat. An MCP server is a small helper program that gives your AI a new skill or a connection to another tool. This one connects your AI to xcodebuild, Apple's build tool for iOS projects. So when you ask about building or testing your app, the AI can actually run the build and see what happened, instead of guessing.
What this MCP server does
You ask your AI to build or test your iOS project. The AI uses this helper, and the helper runs Apple's xcodebuild command on the folder you point it to. The build output, including any errors, comes back to the AI. The AI then explains what went wrong and can suggest a fix, all in the same chat.
Click to zoomWhat you can do with it
- Build an iOS workspace or project from a folder path
- Run the tests for your iOS project
- See build errors without copying them yourself
- Ask your AI to explain a build failure in plain words
- Get fix suggestions based on the real error output
Try asking your AI
- “Build my iOS project in /Users/me/Projects/MyApp and tell me what failed”
- “Run the tests for the project in /Users/me/Projects/MyApp”
- “Why is my app not building? The folder is /Users/me/Projects/MyApp”
- “Build the workspace in /Users/me/Projects/MyApp and summarize the errors”
What it gives back to you
It gives back the result of the build or test run, including the error messages Apple's tool printed. In the chat you see your AI explain those errors and often suggest what to change. If the build or tests pass, you get a short confirmation instead.
Before you start
What you need
- A Mac with Xcode installed
- An iOS Xcode workspace or project on your Mac
- An AI coding tool that supports MCP, such as Cline or Roo Code in Visual Studio Code, or the Claude desktop app
Good to know
It runs real build and test commands on your Mac, so it can take a while and may change build output files in your project folder.
Install it with your AI
Add xcodebuild MCP server to your AI, no technical skills needed
You don't install anything by hand. You copy one prompt, paste it into an AI that can work on your computer, and it checks, installs and connects the server for you, asking you when it needs something.
Sign in to get the install prompt
Members get a ready-made prompt that lets the Claude desktop app check xcodebuild MCP server, install it and connect it for them, step by step. You don't need any technical skills: you copy, paste and answer a few questions. Your connected AI can also find and install any of the 4,066 MCP servers here for you.
Who it's for
iOS app developers who want their AI assistant to build and test their Xcode projects and help fix errors.
