This is a writing helper for people who write novels, especially long Chinese web novels. It gives your AI a set of tools to look at your chapter files, measure your writing style, keep track of plot threads and characters, and search your book by meaning. It is handy if you write many chapters and want to stay consistent without sending your text to an online service.

What is an MCP server? The 30-second version

On its own, your AI can only chat with you. An MCP server is a small helper program that gives your AI a new skill or a connection to something on your computer. This one connects your AI to a folder of novel chapters on your own machine, so the AI can read them, measure them and answer questions about them. Nothing gets uploaded, and the helper runs only when you ask it to.

What this MCP server does

You point this helper at a folder where your chapter files live, like 第01章.md, 第02章.md and so on. When you ask your AI something about your book, the AI calls one of the helper's tools, and the helper reads your files and does the math on your own computer. For example, it can measure your writing style across chapters, list which plot threads are still open, or find passages that are related in meaning. The AI then explains the result to you in the chat, often as a table or a short list. It can also create a new empty chapter file for you when you are ready to start the next one.

What you can do with it

  • Measure your writing style across all chapters and get a six-number baseline
  • Check a new chapter against that baseline and see where it drifts
  • Search your whole book by meaning, not just exact words
  • Track plot threads and see how long each one has been open
  • Keep character, place and item notes in one place
  • Audit continuity between chapters, like time jumps or missing characters
  • Create a new chapter file with the right name

Try asking your AI

  • “Give me a style report for my novel”
  • “Check chapter 7 against the rest of the book”
  • “Find passages related to the unlit lamp”
  • “Which plot threads have been open the longest”
  • “Make a fix list for chapter 7”

What it gives back to you

You get answers in the chat, usually as short tables or lists with numbers and a few quoted lines from your own text. For example, a style check returns a similarity score, a list of differences and a few anchor passages from your book. A plot check returns which threads are open, which characters have been missing and how far apart chapters are. Nothing is written back into your chapters unless you ask it to create a new empty file.

Before you start

What you need

  • Node.js version 22.3 or newer installed on your computer
  • A folder with your novel chapters as text files, one file per chapter
  • An MCP client like Claude Desktop or Cursor

Good to know

The import tool can move files and, if you ask it to, delete the original source files, so only use it when you are sure what is in the source folder.
