Sofya MCP server
by sofya-co · official
Lets your AI search the web, read pages and PDFs, pull out details, and write cited research reports.

This is a small helper that connects your AI assistant to Sofya, a web research service. Once it is set up, your AI can search the web, open pages and PDFs, and put together short reports with sources. It is handy if you often ask your AI about things that need up-to-date or detailed information from the web.
What is an MCP server? The 30-second version
On its own, your AI can only chat with what it already knows. An MCP server is a small helper program that gives your AI a new skill or a connection to an outside service. This one connects your AI to Sofya, a web research service. So when you ask a question, your AI can go look things up on the web through Sofya and bring the answers back to you.
What this MCP server does
You ask your AI something, like a question about a topic or a link you want summarized. Your AI passes that request to this helper. The helper talks to Sofya, which searches the web, opens pages or PDFs, and pulls out the details you asked for. Sofya sends the results back, and your AI shows them to you in the chat. You do not have to copy links or paste text yourself.
Click to zoomWhat you can do with it
- Search the web and get the full page content, not just short snippets
- Read a list of web pages or PDFs and turn them into clean text
- Pull specific details out of a page, like prices or names
- Ask a bigger question and get a short report with sources listed
- Limit a search to certain websites or to recent news
- Get a quick AI-written answer on top of the search results
Try asking your AI
- “Search the web for recent news about electric car sales in Europe and give me the main points”
- “Read this PDF and summarize it for me: https://example.com/report.pdf”
- “From this page, pull out the product name, price, and shipping time”
- “Research whether standing desks are good for back pain and give me a short report with sources”
What it gives back to you
You get answers written in the chat, based on what Sofya found. Search results come back as page content, and the research tool comes back as a short report with the sources it used. Fetched pages and PDFs come back as clean text you can read or ask follow-up questions about. Extracted details come back as the specific pieces of information you asked for.
Before you start
What you need
- A Sofya account and API key (a kind of password for apps; you get one for free at sofya.co)
- Node.js 18 or newer on your computer
- An AI app that supports MCP servers, like Claude Desktop, Claude Code, Cursor, Windsurf, VS Code, or Codex
Good to know
Each search, fetch, extract, or research action uses Sofya credits from your account, and research costs the most, so keep an eye on your balance.
Install it with your AI
Add Sofya MCP server to your AI, no technical skills needed
You don't install anything by hand. You copy one prompt, paste it into an AI that can work on your computer, and it checks, installs and connects the server for you, asking you when it needs something.
Sign in to get the install prompt
Members get a ready-made prompt that lets the Claude desktop app check Sofya MCP server, install it and connect it for them, step by step. You don't need any technical skills: you copy, paste and answer a few questions. Your connected AI can also find and install any of the 4,066 MCP servers here for you.
Who it's for
Anyone who does research at work, like analysts, writers, marketers, students, or assistants who need up-to-date web information and sources.
