Sqemo MCP server

by sqemo

Let your AI design database diagrams that follow your team's naming rules, and check them against a real database.

Flow diagram: you ask your AI “Make a diagram for a discussion board with members and posts”, the Sqemo MCP server connects it to Sqemo, and you get back updated diagram and a list of issues.

Sqemo is a tool for drawing database diagrams, the kind that show your tables and how they connect. This MCP server lets your AI assistant work on those diagrams for you, using your team's own naming rules so every table and column comes out named the same way. It is handy if you design or review databases and want the boring naming part handled for you.

What is an MCP server? The 30-second version

On its own, your AI can only chat with you. An MCP server is a small helper program that gives your AI a new skill or a connection to another app. This one connects your AI to Sqemo, so it can open your database diagrams, add tables and columns, and check names against your team's word list. You just ask in normal words, and the helper does the clicking and typing on Sqemo for you.

What this MCP server does

You describe what you want in plain language, like a discussion board with members and posts. Your AI uses this helper to create or edit the diagram in Sqemo. The helper looks up your team's word list and turns your everyday words into the short column names your team uses, so Post Content becomes POST_CNTS. It can also export the diagram as SQL or DBML, and compare the diagram against a real database to spot differences. You get the updated diagram and a list of anything that does not match.

What you can do with it

  • Create a new database diagram from a plain description
  • Add or change tables, columns, and the links between them
  • Turn your everyday words into your team's short column names
  • Export the diagram as SQL for seven database types or as DBML
  • Check the diagram for naming mistakes and broken links
  • Compare the diagram against a live database and list the differences
  • Propose new words for your team's shared word list

What it gives back to you

You get answers in the chat, like a list of tables, the short name the helper chose for a column, or a summary of your diagram. It can also hand you SQL or DBML text you can copy. When it checks naming or compares against a database, it gives you a list of problems or differences, with the table and column names spelled out. Any changes it makes show up in your diagram in Sqemo.

Before you start

What you need

  • Node.js version 22 or newer
  • A Sqemo account only if you want to use cloud diagrams or the Pro tools
  • Your database connection details only if you want to compare against a live database

Good to know

It can change or delete tables, columns, and word list entries in your diagrams, and the live database tools need your database connection details, so keep a backup and check before you let it write.

Install it with your AI

You don't install anything by hand. You copy one prompt, paste it into an AI that can work on your computer, and it checks, installs and connects the server for you, asking you when it needs something.
