Bundler MCP server
by subelsky
Lets your AI look up the Ruby gems listed in your project's Gemfile, with versions and docs.

This is a small helper that connects your AI assistant to a Ruby project's list of dependencies, called a Gemfile. Once it is set up, you can ask your AI things like which version of a gem you are using, or where its documentation lives, without opening any files yourself. It is handy for Ruby developers who want quick answers about the libraries their project relies on.
What is an MCP server? The 30-second version
On its own, your AI can only chat with you using what it already knows. An MCP server is a small helper program that gives your AI a new skill or a connection to something on your computer. This one connects your AI to the Gemfile in your Ruby project, so it can look up your dependencies for you. You just ask a question in plain words, and the helper fetches the answer from your project.
What this MCP server does
You ask your AI a question about the gems your Ruby project uses. The AI passes that request to this helper, which reads your Gemfile and the installed gems. The helper gathers the details, like versions, descriptions, and where the documentation files are. Then the AI shows you the answer right in the chat. You never have to dig through files or run commands yourself.
Click to zoomWhat you can do with it
- List every gem your project depends on
- Check which version of a gem you are using
- Read the description of a gem
- Find where a gem is installed on your machine
- Locate a gem's README or CHANGELOG file
- Find the source code files for a specific gem
Try asking your AI
- “What gems does this project use?”
- “Which version of rails is in my Gemfile?”
- “Where is the README for the rspec gem?”
- “Show me the details for the puma gem”
What it gives back to you
You get back clear answers in the chat, like a list of gems with their versions and descriptions. If you ask about one gem, it shows that gem's version, description, install path, and where its documentation and source files live. It is all read-only information, so nothing in your project gets changed.
Before you start
What you need
- A Ruby project with a Gemfile
- Ruby and Bundler installed on your computer
- The bundler_mcp gem added to your project
- An AI client that supports MCP, like Claude or Cursor
Good to know
This helper only reads information about your gems, so it will not change or delete anything in your project.
Install it with your AI
Add Bundler MCP server to your AI, no technical skills needed
You don't install anything by hand. You copy one prompt, paste it into an AI that can work on your computer, and it checks, installs and connects the server for you, asking you when it needs something.
Sign in to get the install prompt
Members get a ready-made prompt that lets the Claude desktop app check Bundler MCP server, install it and connect it for them, step by step. You don't need any technical skills: you copy, paste and answer a few questions. Your connected AI can also find and install any of the 4,066 MCP servers here for you.
Who it's for
Ruby developers and anyone working on a Ruby project who wants quick answers about their project's dependencies.
