WTFM MCP server

by SupportPages-io

Your AI writes illustrated user help articles from your code, with screenshots, and saves them as Markdown files.

WTFM is a helper for your coding agent that writes user documentation for your product. It reads your code to understand the screens, then writes step-by-step guides in plain language and adds screenshots of each screen. It is handy for anyone who needs to create help articles without doing it by hand.

What is an MCP server? The 30-second version

On its own, your AI can only chat. An MCP server is a small helper program that gives your AI a new skill or a connection to an app or service. Here, WTFM connects your AI to your codebase so it can read the interface code and write help articles. When you ask for a guide, the AI uses this helper to look at your code and produce the article with screenshots.

What this MCP server does

You ask your AI for a help article, like 'Write a guide to inviting a teammate'. The AI uses WTFM to read your project's source code, find the relevant screens and buttons, and understand the flow. WTFM then builds mockups of each screen from your own styles and renders them as images. Finally, it writes the steps in plain language, checks everything, and saves the article as a Markdown file with the images next to it.

What you can do with it

  • Write step-by-step help articles from your code
  • Generate screenshots of each screen without running the app
  • Save articles as Markdown files with images
  • Check articles for structure, copy and screenshot quality
  • List existing help articles in your project
  • Write troubleshooting articles for common issues
  • Choose a writing style: friendly, minimal, technical or formal

Try asking your AI

  • “Write an illustrated guide to inviting a teammate.”
  • “What help articles do we have?”
  • “Write a troubleshooting article for when a sign-in link has expired.”
  • “Write a guide to exporting a report.”

What it gives back to you

You get a complete help article saved in your project folder, usually as an index.md file with PNG screenshots beside it. The article contains step-by-step instructions in plain language, and each screenshot shows a screen from your product. In the chat, your AI tells you where the article was saved and may show a summary of what it wrote.

Before you start

What you need

  • macOS or Linux (on Windows, use WSL)
  • Claude Code or Codex installed and signed in
  • Git
  • Node.js 22.12 or later (only if installing as a Codex plugin or building from source)

Good to know

Project analysis runs with your agent's permission prompts turned off, so it can read your code without asking each time.

Install it with your AI

Add WTFM MCP server to your AI, no technical skills needed

You don't install anything by hand. You copy one prompt, paste it into an AI that can work on your computer, and it checks, installs and connects the server for you, asking you when it needs something.

Sign in to get the install prompt

Members get a ready-made prompt that lets the Claude desktop app check WTFM MCP server, install it and connect it for them, step by step. You don't need any technical skills: you copy, paste and answer a few questions. Your connected AI can also find and install any of the 4,609 MCP servers here for you.
