jobwatch MCP server
by vinayvobbili
Your AI can check the job boards of companies you follow and show you new roles that match what you want.
jobwatch keeps an eye on the job boards of companies you care about, like Greenhouse, Lever, Ashby and Workday. It finds new roles, ranks them for you, and can even compare them with your resume. It is handy if you are job hunting and tired of checking dozens of careers pages by hand.
What is an MCP server? The 30-second version
On its own, your AI can only chat. An MCP server is a small helper program that gives your AI a new skill. This one connects your AI to jobwatch, which watches company job boards for you. So when you ask your AI about new jobs, it can look them up through jobwatch and answer with real postings.
What this MCP server does
You tell your AI what kind of job you want, or just ask what is new. The AI passes that to jobwatch on your computer. jobwatch then reads the public job boards of the companies on your watchlist, filters the roles by your rules, and ranks them. Your AI gets the results back and shows you a short list of matching jobs, with pay, location and keywords. It never applies to anything for you.
What you can do with it
- See new job postings from companies you follow
- Filter jobs by title, location, pay and how old they are
- Get a fit score that compares a job with your resume
- Track which jobs you applied to and where they stand
- Set follow-up days and see which ones are due
- Search for a company's job board from a name or a link
- Ask questions about today's jobs and your applications
Try asking your AI
- “What new engineering jobs came in today?”
- “Show me remote roles in the US that pay at least 200k”
- “Which of my applications need a follow-up this week?”
- “Score this job against my resume and tell me what is missing”
What it gives back to you
You get a short digest of new matching jobs, each with the company, location, pay range, when it was posted and a few keywords. If a job has been scored, you also see the fit number and the must-haves your resume does not show. Your AI can also list your applications and their statuses. Everything appears as normal text in the chat.
Before you start
What you need
- Python installed on your computer
- jobwatch installed with the mcp option: pip install 'jobwatch[mcp]'
- A watchlist file listing the companies you want to follow (jobwatch init writes an example)
- For fit scores with Claude: an Anthropic API key, which is a kind of password you get from Anthropic
Good to know
It only reads public job boards and never applies for you, but if you turn on Claude scoring, your resume and the job posting text are sent to Anthropic.
