apifable MCP server

by ycs77

Let your AI read your API spec, find endpoints, and write TypeScript types for you.

Flow diagram: you ask your AI “Show me the APIs related to posts”, on your own computer the apifable MCP server works with apifable, and you get back endpoint details and types.

apifable is a small helper that connects your AI assistant to an OpenAPI spec file, which is a document that describes what your API can do. Once it is set up, your AI can look through that document for you instead of you scrolling through it by hand. It is handy for frontend developers working on TypeScript projects who need to connect their app to a backend API.

What is an MCP server? The 30-second version

On its own, your AI can only chat with you. An MCP server is a small helper program that gives your AI a new skill or a connection to something else. This one connects your AI to your OpenAPI spec, so it can look up endpoints and schemas and hand you back TypeScript types when you ask. You set it up once, and after that your AI just uses it in the background.

What this MCP server does

You ask your AI something like "show me the APIs related to posts." The AI passes that request to apifable, and apifable reads your OpenAPI spec file and finds the matching endpoints. It sends back the details, such as the path, the method, the parameters, and the response shape. If you ask for types, it builds ready-to-use TypeScript declarations and shows them in the chat. You can then copy them into your project or ask the AI to write the integration code for you.

What you can do with it

  • List every endpoint in your API spec
  • Search endpoints by keyword or by tag
  • Show the full details of one endpoint, including parameters and responses
  • Search and inspect schemas from your spec
  • Generate TypeScript types for a schema or an endpoint
  • Get a quick overview of your spec, like its title, version, and tags

Try asking your AI

  • “List all APIs”
  • “Show me APIs related to posts”
  • “Show me the API details for GET /posts/{id}/comments”
  • “Generate TypeScript types for the postComments endpoint”

What it gives back to you

You get back plain answers and lists in the chat, like a list of endpoints with their paths and short descriptions. When you ask for details, you get the full endpoint info such as parameters, request body, and responses. When you ask for types, you get TypeScript code you can copy straight into your project.

Before you start

What you need

  • Node.js installed on your computer
  • An OpenAPI 3.0 or 3.1 spec file, either in your project or at a web address
  • An AI tool that supports MCP servers, such as Claude Code, Cursor, or Windsurf

Good to know

It only reads your spec file, so it does not change anything on your API, but it will not work with OpenAPI 2.0 (Swagger) specs or with references to other files.

Install it with your AI

Add apifable MCP server to your AI, no technical skills needed

You don't install anything by hand. You copy one prompt, paste it into an AI that can work on your computer, and it checks, installs and connects the server for you, asking you when it needs something.

Sign in to get the install prompt

Members get a ready-made prompt that lets the Claude desktop app check apifable MCP server, install it and connect it for them, step by step. You don't need any technical skills: you copy, paste and answer a few questions. Your connected AI can also find and install any of the 4,066 MCP servers here for you.
