Mindpilot MCP server

by abrinsmead

Turn your AI's explanations into Mermaid diagrams you can view in your browser.

Flow diagram: you ask your AI “Show me the login flow as a diagram”, on your own computer the Mindpilot MCP server works with your own computer, and you get back A diagram in your browser.

Mindpilot is a small helper that lets your AI draw pictures of code, systems, and processes as Mermaid diagrams. Instead of reading a wall of text, you get a visual you can open in your browser. It is handy for anyone trying to understand a project, a workflow, or a tangled piece of logic.

What is an MCP server? The 30-second version

On its own, your AI can only chat with you in words. An MCP server is a small helper program that gives your AI a new skill or a connection to an app or service. Mindpilot is that helper here: it takes the diagram instructions your AI writes and turns them into a picture you can see in a web page. You do not need to know how it works inside. You just ask, and the picture shows up.

What this MCP server does

You ask your AI something like "show me the login flow as a diagram." The AI writes the diagram in a simple text format called Mermaid, which it is already good at. It hands that text to Mindpilot. Mindpilot runs a tiny web app on your own computer and draws the diagram there. You open the page in your browser and see the picture. You can also save it as an image file to share.

What you can do with it

  • Draw architecture diagrams of a project
  • Show a flow as a sequence diagram
  • Sketch a state machine for tricky logic
  • Visualize code structure to spot leftovers
  • Export a diagram as a vector image
  • Keep a history of diagrams you made
  • Open the same diagram collection from more than one AI window

Try asking your AI

  • “Create a diagram of how our checkout process works”
  • “Show me the state machine for the WebSocket connection logic”
  • “Make a C4 context diagram of this project's architecture”
  • “Show me the OAuth flow as a sequence diagram”

What it gives back to you

You get a diagram rendered in a web page on your own computer, usually at localhost:4000. The AI will also tell you in chat that the diagram is ready and where to look. Past diagrams are saved so you can go back to them later. You can export any diagram as a vector image if you want to drop it into a document or slide.

Before you start

What you need

  • Node.js version 20 or newer installed on your computer
  • A coding assistant that supports MCP, like Claude Code, Cursor, VS Code, Windsurf, or Zed
  • A web browser to view the diagrams

Good to know

Mindpilot sends anonymous usage data by default, so add the --disable-analytics flag if you would rather not share that.

Install it with your AI

Add Mindpilot MCP server to your AI, no technical skills needed

You don't install anything by hand. You copy one prompt, paste it into an AI that can work on your computer, and it checks, installs and connects the server for you, asking you when it needs something.

Sign in to get the install prompt

Members get a ready-made prompt that lets the Claude desktop app check Mindpilot MCP server, install it and connect it for them, step by step. You don't need any technical skills: you copy, paste and answer a few questions. Your connected AI can also find and install any of the 4,066 MCP servers here for you.
