AI Tool Directory MCP server

by AI-Directory-Partners

Lets your AI look up AI tools, compare them, and check if a tool is still alive or already shut down.

This is a helper that connects your AI assistant to a live catalog of over 2,000 AI tools. It is handy when you want to know what a tool costs, what it does, or whether it still exists. If you have ever been told to try a tool that turned out to be dead, this fixes that.

What is an MCP server? The 30-second version

On its own, your AI can only chat with what it already learned. An MCP server is a small helper program that gives your AI a new skill or a connection to an outside service. This one connects your AI to the AI Tool Directory, a human-edited catalog of AI tools. So when you ask about a tool, your AI can actually look it up instead of guessing.

What this MCP server does

You ask your AI a question about AI tools, like whether one is still running or which one is better. Your AI passes that question to this helper. The helper talks to the Tool Directory website, which keeps the catalog and the list of dead tools. The answer comes back into your chat as a short list, a comparison, or a plain yes or no. Nothing is changed anywhere, it only reads.

What you can do with it

  • Search the catalog by keyword, use case, or category
  • Get a full profile of one tool, including pricing and features
  • Check whether a tool is active, shut down, or acquired
  • Find alternatives to a tool you already use
  • Compare two tools side by side
  • List top-rated tools for a category or a job role
  • Filter tools by whether they are free or paid

Try asking your AI

  • “Is Jasper still operating? What happened to Inflection Pi?”
  • “Find me alternatives to Midjourney with a free tier.”
  • “Compare Gamma and Beautiful.ai for making decks.”
  • “What are the best AI tools for sales teams?”

What it gives back to you

You get answers right in the chat. Sometimes it is a short list of tools with a line about each one. Sometimes it is a side-by-side comparison or a single tool profile with pricing and features. For the status check, you get a clear answer like active, shut down, or acquired, plus the date and reason if it closed, and live alternatives when it is gone.

Before you start

Good to know

It only reads from the catalog, so it cannot change or delete anything, but the answers are only as fresh as the directory's last human check.
