This is a small helper that connects your AI to the official exchange rates of the Georgian lari (GEL), published by the National Bank of Georgia. You can ask for the rate on a specific day, convert an amount, or get a whole month of rates as a table. It is handy if you deal with Georgian invoices, accounting, or travel money and want the exact official rate, not a guess.
What is an MCP server? The 30-second version
On its own, your AI can only chat with you using what it already knows. An MCP server is a small helper program that gives your AI one new skill or one new connection. This helper connects your AI to the National Bank of Georgia's published lari rates, so when you ask about a rate or a conversion, the AI can look it up for you. You do not need an account or a key, and you can add it to Claude or ChatGPT by pasting a web address.
What this MCP server does
You ask your AI something like the dollar rate on a certain date, or how much 1,500 dollars is in lari. The AI passes your question to this helper. The helper looks up the official rate that was in force on that exact day, applies the right rules, and sends the answer back. Your AI then shows it to you in the chat, with the rate, the converted amount, and a note if the rate was carried over from an earlier day. It never makes up a rate for a date that has not been published yet; it tells you instead.

What it gives back to you
You get back the rate in force on the date you asked for, in lari per one unit of the currency, plus the change versus the previous published rate. For a conversion you get the converted amount, rounded to two decimals the way a ledger posts it, and the rate used. If the day had no rate of its own, like a Sunday, the answer says the rate was carried over and names the day it took effect. Everything appears as a clear answer in your chat, and the same details are also sent in a structured form.

What you need
- Nothing to install if you use the hosted connector: just paste the web address into Claude or ChatGPT
- For the desktop version, the Claude Desktop app (the downloadable extension runs on its own)
- For manual setup, Node.js 22 or later
Good to know
It only reads rates and never changes anything, but it is an independent project not affiliated with the National Bank of Georgia, and the rates come from NBG pages that could change; always treat nbg.gov.ge as the source of truth.
