Supabase MCP server

by alexander-zuev

Let your AI run SQL queries and explore your Supabase database for you, with safety checks built in.

This is a helper that connects your AI assistant to a Supabase database. Supabase is a popular service people use to store app data. If you keep data in Supabase and want your AI to look things up or make changes without you writing database code yourself, this is for you.

What is an MCP server? The 30-second version

On its own, your AI can only chat with you. An MCP server is a small helper program that gives your AI a new skill or a connection to an app or service. This one connects your AI to Supabase, so it can look things up in your database or make changes there when you ask. You stay in the chat and just say what you want.

What this MCP server does

You ask your AI a question about your data, like how many signups you had last month. The AI passes that request to this helper program. The helper talks to your Supabase database and runs the needed query. It also checks the query first, so risky ones like deleting data are flagged. Then the AI shows you the answer back in the chat.

What you can do with it

  • Run read-only SQL queries to look at your data
  • Make schema changes like adding tables or columns
  • Manage your Supabase projects through the Management API
  • Manage users with the Supabase Auth Admin tools
  • Switch between read-only and read-write modes
  • Check a query's risk level before it runs

Try asking your AI

  • “How many new users signed up in the last 7 days?”
  • “Show me the 10 most recent orders and their totals.”
  • “Add a column called notes to the customers table.”
  • “List all users who have not confirmed their email yet.”

What it gives back to you

You get answers in plain chat: numbers, lists of rows, short summaries, or a note that a change was made. For example, ask for recent orders and you'll see a small table of results. If the AI changed something in your database, it tells you what it did.

Before you start

What you need

  • A Supabase account with a project
  • Your Supabase project reference and database password
  • A free API key from thequery.dev (a kind of password for this tool)
  • An MCP client like Cursor, Windsurf, Cline, or Claude Desktop

Good to know

It can change or delete data in your database, so be careful with write and destructive queries and keep read-only mode on when you just want to look.

Install it with your AI

Add Supabase MCP server to your AI, no technical skills needed

You don't install anything by hand. You copy one prompt, paste it into an AI that can work on your computer, and it checks, installs and connects the server for you, asking you when it needs something.

Sign in to get the install prompt

Members get a ready-made prompt that lets the Claude desktop app check Supabase MCP server, install it and connect it for them, step by step. You don't need any technical skills: you copy, paste and answer a few questions. Your connected AI can also find and install any of the 4,066 MCP servers here for you.
