Alibaba Cloud Tablestore MCP server
by aliyun
Let your AI save documents into Tablestore and search them later by meaning, not just keywords.

This is a small helper that connects your AI assistant to Alibaba Cloud Tablestore, a cloud database for storing and searching documents. It is handy if you keep a pile of notes, FAQs, or internal docs and want your AI to answer questions from them. You do not need to be a programmer to understand what it does, though setting it up is a job for someone technical.
What is an MCP server? The 30-second version
On its own, your AI can only chat with you using what it already learned. An MCP server is a small helper program that gives your AI one extra skill, in this case a connection to Alibaba Cloud Tablestore. Once connected, your AI can ask Tablestore to store a document or look one up for you. You just type your question in normal words, and the helper quietly does the database work behind the scenes.
What this MCP server does
You ask your AI something, like to save a document or find related notes. The AI passes that request to this helper. The helper talks to your Tablestore database in the cloud, adding the document or searching it. Tablestore can match by meaning using vectors, which is a way of comparing ideas rather than exact words, and also by simple fields like dates or tags. The results come back to your AI, which turns them into a normal answer in the chat.
Click to zoomWhat you can do with it
- Save a document or note into your Tablestore database
- Search your saved documents by meaning, not just exact words
- Filter results by simple fields like date, tag, or category
- Build a private question-and-answer helper from your own files
- Store and recall memories for your AI across conversations
- Run this on Alibaba Cloud so nothing sits on your own laptop
Try asking your AI
- “Save this meeting summary to my Tablestore knowledge base”
- “Find any notes I saved about our refund policy”
- “Search my documents for anything related to onboarding new hires”
- “Remember that this customer prefers email over phone calls”
What it gives back to you
You get back a normal chat answer built from what Tablestore found, often a short list of matching documents with a snippet of each. When you save something, it tells you the document was added. When you search, it shows the closest matches and can explain why they matched. Everything appears as plain text in your conversation.
Before you start
What you need
- An Alibaba Cloud account with Tablestore enabled
- A Tablestore instance and a table set up for your documents
- Your Tablestore access keys (a kind of username and password for apps)
- A computer or server that can run Java or Python, since the examples come in both
Good to know
It can add and change documents in your Tablestore database, so be careful about which table you point it at and keep your access keys private.
