Samsara MCP server
Lets your AI look up vehicles, build and optimize routes, and check driver hours in Samsara.

This is a helper that connects your AI assistant to Samsara, the system many companies use to track their trucks, vans and drivers. Once it is set up, you can just ask your AI in plain words to find a vehicle, build a delivery route or check a driver's hours, and it does the clicking for you. It is handy for dispatchers, fleet managers and anyone who plans routes or keeps an eye on drivers.
What is an MCP server? The 30-second version
On its own, your AI can only chat with you. It cannot see your Samsara account or change anything there. An MCP server is a small helper program that gives your AI one new skill, and this one gives it a connection to Samsara. So when you ask about a vehicle or a route, your AI passes the request to this helper, the helper talks to Samsara, and the answer comes back into your chat.
What this MCP server does
You ask your AI something about your fleet, like where a vehicle is or how many hours a driver has left. Your AI sends that request to this helper running on your own computer. The helper signs in to Samsara with your API token and asks Samsara for the information or makes the change you wanted. Samsara sends the answer back, and your AI turns it into a normal reply in your chat. It also spaces out the requests so you do not hit Samsara's limits, and it keeps route stop details safe when you edit a route.
Click to zoomWhat you can do with it
- List your vehicles and see their details
- Check where vehicles are right now
- Create a new delivery or service route
- Optimize a route to cut distance or time
- Update or delete an existing route
- Look up driver records and Hours of Service logs
- Set up webhooks so Samsara tells you when things happen
Try asking your AI
- “Show me the real-time locations of all vehicles that are currently on routes”
- “Create a route called Morning Zone 1 with these stops: warehouse at 123 Main St, then 456 Oak Ave, then 789 Pine Rd, then back to the warehouse”
- “Optimize the Morning Zone 1 route for minimum distance”
- “Get the Hours of Service logs for driver John Smith for the past week and flag any violations”
What it gives back to you
You get answers written out in your chat, like a list of vehicles with their names and status, or a route with its stops in order. For routes it can also show the improved stop order after optimizing. When it makes a change, like creating or updating a route, it tells you what it did. Numbers like hours driven or distance come back as simple figures you can read at a glance.
Before you start
What you need

- The Claude desktop app or another app that supports MCP servers
Good to know
This helper can change things in your Samsara account, including creating, updating and deleting routes, so check with your AI before letting it make changes you did not mean to make.
Install it with your AI
Add Samsara MCP server to your AI, no technical skills needed
You don't install anything by hand. You copy one prompt, paste it into an AI that can work on your computer, and it checks, installs and connects the server for you, asking you when it needs something.
Sign in to get the install prompt
Members get a ready-made prompt that lets the Claude desktop app check Samsara MCP server, install it and connect it for them, step by step. You don't need any technical skills: you copy, paste and answer a few questions. Your connected AI can also find and install any of the 4,066 MCP servers here for you.
Who it's for
Fleet managers, dispatchers and logistics coordinators who already use Samsara and want to ask for things in plain words instead of clicking around.
