Lets your AI read, search, redact, split and merge your PDF files right on your own PC.
LaserPDF is a PDF app for Windows that also has a built-in helper for AI assistants. When you turn it on, your AI can work with the PDF files on your computer: reading them, searching them, cleaning them up and saving new versions. It is handy if you deal with contracts, reports, scans or invoices and want your AI to do the boring parts.
What is an MCP server? The 30-second version
On its own, your AI can only chat. It cannot open a file on your PC or look inside a PDF. An MCP server is a small helper program that gives your AI a new skill. Here, LaserPDF acts as that helper: it connects your AI to the PDF files on your computer, so the AI can read them, search them and make new ones when you ask.
What this MCP server does
You ask your AI something about a PDF, like what is inside it or where a word appears. Your AI passes the request to LaserPDF, which opens the file on your PC and does the work. LaserPDF sends the answer back, and your AI shows it to you in the chat. For tasks that change a file, like redacting words or splitting pages, LaserPDF saves a new PDF to the location you give it. Everything happens on your computer, nothing is uploaded.

What it gives back to you
You get answers in plain chat: summaries, lists of page numbers, the text of pages, or a short description of what changed. When a tool creates a file, like a redacted PDF or an Excel sheet, the chat tells you where it was saved. You can then open that file yourself.

What you need
- A Windows PC with the LaserPDF app installed (from the Microsoft Store or the installer on the Releases page)
- An AI assistant that supports MCP, such as the Claude desktop app
- The path to the PDF file you want to work with
Good to know
Some tools change or remove things from your PDFs, like redacting words or stripping metadata, so always check the new file before you share it.
