conv2pdf MCP server
by jamalofski · official
Turn Word, Excel, PowerPoint, images and e-books into PDF, and merge, split, compress or protect PDFs, right from your AI chat.
This is a helper that lets your AI assistant work with the files on your computer: it turns Office documents, images and e-books into PDF, turns PDFs into Word or images, and merges, splits, compresses, rotates, numbers or protects PDFs. It is handy if you deal with documents all day and would rather ask in plain words than open five different programs. It is made by conv2pdf, the company behind the conversion service, and the processing happens on servers in France.
What is an MCP server? The 30-second version
On its own, your AI can only chat: it can write text, but it cannot open a file on your laptop or create a new one. An MCP server is a small helper program that gives your AI one extra skill. This helper connects your AI to the conv2pdf service, so when you ask for something like "convert report.docx to PDF", the AI can actually send that file off, get the result back and save it next to the original. You just talk; the helper does the running around.
What this MCP server does
You tell your AI what you want in normal words, for example "merge these three PDFs" or "compress scan.pdf". The AI picks the right action from this helper and passes it the path of the file on your computer. The helper sends the file to conv2pdf, which does the actual conversion or edit on its servers. The result comes back and the helper writes it on your disk, next to the file you started with. Then the AI tells you the name of the new file and where it is.
What you can do with it
- Convert Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Pages, RTF, TXT, CSV, images and EPUB files to PDF
- Convert a PDF with real text into an editable Word document
- Turn each page of a PDF into a PNG or JPG image, delivered as a ZIP file
- Merge several PDFs into one, or keep only the pages you list
- Compress a PDF to make it smaller, or protect it with a password
- Add page numbers or a text watermark to every page
- Check how much of your monthly conversion quota is left
Try asking your AI
- “Convert report.docx to PDF”
- “Merge these three PDFs into one file”
- “Compress scan.pdf and protect it with a password”
- “Keep only pages 1 to 5 and 10 to 12 of contract.pdf”
What it gives back to you
You get a short answer in the chat telling you what was done and the name of the new file, like report.pdf or report-compressed.pdf. The actual file lands on your computer, in the same folder as the original, so you can open it right away. If something went wrong, the AI gets a plain sentence explaining why, such as a wrong password or a page range that does not exist, and can tell you what to fix.
Before you start
What you need
- A conv2pdf account (the Dev plan includes 300 free conversions, valid for 12 months)
- An API key from your conv2pdf dashboard, in the Developer tab (a kind of password for apps; it starts with cpdf_live_ and is shown only once)
- Node.js 22 or later installed on your computer
- An AI app that supports MCP servers, such as Claude Desktop or Claude Code
Good to know
Your files are sent to conv2pdf's servers in France to be processed, and each conversion uses up one unit of your plan quota, even when the service refuses the file after reading it.
Install it with your AI
Add conv2pdf MCP server to your AI, no technical skills needed
You don't install anything by hand. You copy one prompt, paste it into an AI that can work on your computer, and it checks, installs and connects the server for you, asking you when it needs something.
Sign in to get the install prompt
Members get a ready-made prompt that lets the Claude desktop app check conv2pdf MCP server, install it and connect it for them, step by step. You don't need any technical skills: you copy, paste and answer a few questions. Your connected AI can also find and install any of the 4,210 MCP servers here for you.
Who it's for
Anyone who handles documents regularly, like office administrators, accountants, HR staff, lawyers' assistants or students, and would rather ask their AI than open a separate conversion tool.
