Playwright MCP server
Let your AI open web pages, click, type, and take screenshots for you.

This is a small helper that lets your AI actually use a web browser. Instead of just talking about a website, it can open it, click buttons, fill in boxes, and take pictures of what it sees. It is handy if you often check pages, fill forms, or collect text from sites by hand.
What is an MCP server? The 30-second version
On its own, your AI can only chat with you. An MCP server is a small helper program that gives your AI a new skill or a connection to another tool. This one connects your AI to a real web browser, so when you ask it to look at a page or click something, it can actually do that and tell you what happened.
What this MCP server does
You ask your AI something like open this page and tell me what is on it. The AI passes your request to this helper. The helper opens a browser, goes to the address, and looks at the page. Then it sends back what it found, like the text, a screenshot, or a note that it clicked or typed something. You see the result right in your chat.
Click to zoomWhat you can do with it
- Open a web address and load the page
- Take a screenshot of the whole page or one part of it
- Click a button or link by its text or by its position on the page
- Type text into a form field
- Read the visible text on a page
- Read the underlying page code for a section you point at
- Run a small piece of browser code and report the result
Try asking your AI
- “Open example.com and tell me what the page says”
- “Take a screenshot of the homepage and save it as home”
- “Click the button that says Sign in, then fill the email field with test@example.com”
- “Get the text of everything visible on this page”
What it gives back to you
You get back plain answers in the chat: the text it read from a page, a note that it clicked or typed something, or a screenshot file it saved. For example, if you ask for the visible text, it will paste that text into the chat. If you ask for a screenshot, it tells you the file name it saved.
Before you start
What you need
- The Claude desktop app (or another app that supports MCP servers)
- Python and the uv tool installed on your computer
- A browser that Playwright can use (it downloads one for you the first time)
Good to know
It can click and type on real websites, so avoid pointing it at pages where a wrong click could send a message, buy something, or change an account.
Install it with your AI
Add Playwright MCP server to your AI, no technical skills needed
You don't install anything by hand. You copy one prompt, paste it into an AI that can work on your computer, and it checks, installs and connects the server for you, asking you when it needs something.
Sign in to get the install prompt
Members get a ready-made prompt that lets the Claude desktop app check Playwright MCP server, install it and connect it for them, step by step. You don't need any technical skills: you copy, paste and answer a few questions. Your connected AI can also find and install any of the 4,066 MCP servers here for you.
Who it's for
Anyone who checks websites, fills forms, or copies text from pages by hand and wants their AI to do it instead.
