IBANforge MCP server
by cammac-creator · official
Check an IBAN before you pay: the bank behind it, its BIC, SEPA reach, and a risk score.

IBANforge is a checking service for bank account numbers (IBANs). You give it an IBAN, and it tells you which bank sits behind it, whether that bank code really exists, and whether the bank looks risky to pay. It is handy for anyone who sends money to suppliers, freelancers or customers and wants a quick sanity check first.
What is an MCP server? The 30-second version
On its own, your AI can only chat with you. An MCP server is a small helper program that gives your AI one new skill, in this case the ability to look up bank details at IBANforge. Once it is connected, you can paste an IBAN into the chat and ask your AI to check it, and the AI quietly asks IBANforge for the answer. You never have to open a website or fill in a form yourself.
What this MCP server does
You paste an IBAN into your chat and ask your AI to check it. Your AI passes that IBAN to the IBANforge helper. The helper sends it to the IBANforge service, which checks the format, looks up the bank code in national registers where it has them, and finds the matching BIC. It also reports which SEPA payment schemes reach that bank and whether the bank is listed as ready for Verification of Payee. Your AI then explains the result back to you in plain words, including a risk score if you asked for a compliance check.
Click to zoomWhat you can do with it
- Validate a single IBAN and see the bank name and BIC behind it
- Check a whole list of IBANs at once, for example a payout file
- Look up a BIC or SWIFT code you already have
- Check a Swiss bank clearing number (BC-Nummer)
- Run a pre-payment risk check against OFAC, EU and UN sanctions lists
- Verify a payment reference number, such as a Swiss QRR or Belgian OGM
- Check a postal address against payment rail rules
Try asking your AI
- “Can you check this IBAN for me: DE89 3704 0044 0532 0130 00”
- “Here is our supplier payout list, please validate all the IBANs and flag any that look wrong”
- “Is the bank behind this IBAN under any sanctions? It is a 4000 euro payment”
- “What is the BIC for UBSWCHZH80A and which SEPA schemes reach that bank”
What it gives back to you
You get a short written answer in the chat: whether the IBAN is valid, the bank name, the BIC, and where that information came from. For a compliance check you also get a risk score from 0 to 100 and a note on which sanctions lists were checked. For a batch, you get a list with one line per IBAN and the problems highlighted. Nothing is stored on your side; the answer just appears in the conversation.
Before you start
What you need
- Nothing to start: the free tools and a small weekly trial work without any key or signup
- For more requests, an IBANforge API key (a free key with no email gives 25 requests a month, 200 once you claim it)
Good to know
This checks the bank behind an IBAN, not the person who owns the account, so it is not proof that an account exists or that the payee is honest; always confirm the account holder's name with your own bank.
