Redact PDF MCP server
by dambuchs
Lets your AI permanently remove names, emails, phone numbers and other personal data from PDFs and images.

This is a helper that lets your AI take a real PDF or picture and give you back a copy with the personal details truly removed from the file. It is handy for anyone who has to share contracts, statements, tickets or ID scans and needs the private parts gone first. You do not need to be technical to use it, you just ask in plain words.
What is an MCP server? The 30-second version
On its own, your AI can only chat. It cannot open a PDF and strip out someone's name for you. An MCP server is a small helper program that gives your AI a new skill, and this one connects it to the Redact PDF service. So when you ask your AI to clean up a document, it hands the file to this helper, the helper does the redaction, and the AI brings the result back to you.
What this MCP server does
You tell your AI which file to clean, for example a contract sitting in your Documents folder. The AI passes that file to this helper, which sends it to the Redact PDF service. There, the document is read (with OCR if it is a scan or a photo), personal details are found, and the text underneath is deleted, not just covered with a black box. The helper then gives your AI the finished PDF, and the AI shows you a link to download it.
Click to zoomWhat you can do with it
- Remove names, emails, phone numbers and addresses from a PDF
- Redact IBANs and credit card numbers from bank statements
- Clean up a screenshot or photo of a document without converting it first
- Keep your own company name visible while hiding everything else
- Always redact specific words like case numbers or codenames
- Try it on the first page of a file for free before signing up
- Check your account and key before running a big batch
Try asking your AI
- “Redact the personal data in ~/Documents/lease.pdf before I send it to the agency.”
- “Redact names, emails and IBANs in every PDF in ~/Downloads/statements, keep our company name visible.”
- “Here is a screenshot of a customer ticket. Remove the phone number and address, then give me a PDF I can attach.”
- “Try the redact-pdf demo on ~/Documents/contract.pdf so I can see what it does.”
What it gives back to you
You get back a link to a redacted PDF you can download, plus a short note from your AI about what was found and removed, like Person and Email. If you asked about a job in progress, you get its status instead. Nothing is changed in your original file.
Before you start
What you need
- A Redact PDF account and API key for full redaction (a kind of password for apps; you get one free at redact-pdf.ai/sign-up)
- Node.js installed on your computer so the npx command can run
- The Claude desktop app, Claude Code, Cursor or VS Code if you want to add it there
Good to know
Redaction is permanent and cannot be undone, so always keep your original file and check the result before you send it on. Redaction is also billed per page after your free first document.
