Let your AI read and update a simple Notion todo list for you, right from the chat.

This is a small helper that connects your AI assistant to one Notion todo list. It was built by one person for their own very simple list, so it fits that exact setup best. It is handy if you keep a basic todo list in Notion and want to add or check off tasks by just talking to your AI.

What is an MCP server? The 30-second version

On its own, your AI can only chat. An MCP server is a small helper program that gives your AI a new skill or a connection to an app. This one connects your AI to Notion, specifically to a simple todo list. Once it is set up, your AI can look at that list and make changes there when you ask.

What this MCP server does

You tell your AI something like show my todos or add a task for today. Your AI passes that request to this helper program. The helper then talks to Notion using your Notion account and your todo list. Notion sends back the list or confirms the change. Your AI then shows you the result in the chat, like a list of tasks or a note that the task was added.

What you can do with it

  • Add a new todo item to your Notion list
  • Show all your todos
  • Show only today's tasks
  • Check off a task as complete
  • Ask what is on your list for later

Try asking your AI

  • “Show all my todos”
  • “What's on my list for today?”
  • “Add a todo for today: check emails”
  • “Add a task for later: review project”

What it gives back to you

You get answers in plain text in the chat. For example, a list of your tasks, or just the ones marked for today. When you add or complete a task, it tells you that it was done. It does not show you fancy charts or files, just the list and short confirmations.

Before you start

What you need

  • A Notion account
  • A Notion integration key (a kind of password you create in Notion for apps)
  • A Notion todo list with exactly three fields: Task, When (today or later), and a checkbox
  • Python 3.10 or newer on your computer

Good to know

It can change your Notion todo list, so tasks you add or tick off are really changed there.
