Inferrail MCP server
by domondi1
Ask your AI what your AI work cost, by model, customer or job, straight from your local records.
Inferrail is a small helper you run on your own computer. It sits between your app and OpenAI or Anthropic, and keeps a note of what each AI job cost. The little MCP part lets your AI read those notes for you, so you can just ask how much something cost.
What is an MCP server? The 30-second version
On its own, your AI can only chat. An MCP server is a small helper program that gives it a new skill or a connection to something. This one connects your AI to your local Inferrail cost records. So instead of opening a dashboard and clicking around, you ask a question in plain words and the AI looks it up for you.
What this MCP server does
You run the Inferrail gateway, and it writes a small record for every AI call that goes through it, with the model, the tokens, the price and any tags you added. When you ask your AI a question about spending, the AI uses this MCP helper. The helper reads those local records and groups the cost the way you asked, by model, provider, route, or a tag like a customer or a job id. Then it hands the numbers back to your AI, which explains them to you in the chat.
What you can do with it
- Ask how much a specific job or customer cost so far
- See spend grouped by model or provider
- Check token usage alongside the cost
- Ask for a quick health check of the gateway
- Group cost by any tag you added, like a workflow name
- Get a plain answer without opening the dashboard
Try asking your AI
- “How much did work contract-review-42 cost?”
- “Show me spend by customer for today.”
- “Which model has cost me the most this week?”
- “Give me a quick health check on my Inferrail gateway.”
What it gives back to you
You get numbers and short summaries right in the chat. It can list known cost and tokens grouped by provider, model, route, or a tag you used, and it can answer a health question about the gateway. If a cost was never known, it says unknown rather than making up a number. It only reads, it does not change anything.
Before you start
What you need
- Python 3.11 or newer on your computer
- The inferrail package installed (pip install inferrail)
- Your Inferrail receipts file, the notes it writes to, usually a .jsonl or SQLite file
- An MCP client, like the Claude desktop app or Claude Code
Good to know
It can see every tag you stored in your receipts file, so keep secrets and message content out of tags and point it only at the records you are happy to share.
Install it with your AI
Add Inferrail MCP server to your AI, no technical skills needed
You don't install anything by hand. You copy one prompt, paste it into an AI that can work on your computer, and it checks, installs and connects the server for you, asking you when it needs something.
Sign in to get the install prompt
Members get a ready-made prompt that lets the Claude desktop app check Inferrail MCP server, install it and connect it for them, step by step. You don't need any technical skills: you copy, paste and answer a few questions. Your connected AI can also find and install any of the 4,609 MCP servers here for you.
