Endor MCP server

by endorhq

Lets your AI start small, throwaway database servers like Postgres, MariaDB or Redis when it needs one.

Flow diagram: you ask your AI “Start a Postgres database for my test”, on your own computer the Endor MCP server works with your computer, and you get back A running database for your AI.

Endor is a helper that starts common server programs, like Postgres, MariaDB, Redis or Memcached, in a private sandbox on your own computer. With MCP mode turned on, your AI assistant can start these servers by itself when a task needs one. It is handy if you or your AI need a quick database to test something, without installing and cleaning up a lot of software.

What is an MCP server? The 30-second version

On its own, your AI can only chat. An MCP server is a small helper program that gives your AI a new skill or a connection to something outside the chat. This one connects your AI to Endor, which starts and manages small server programs like Postgres or Redis for you. So when you ask for a database, your AI can call Endor and get one running, instead of just telling you how to do it yourself.

What this MCP server does

You ask your AI for something that needs a server, for example a Postgres database or a Redis store. Your AI uses this helper, and the helper starts that service in a small, isolated sandbox on your machine. The service runs only for as long as it is needed, and only the application ports are open. When you are done, you stop Endor and everything is removed, with no leftovers on your system. You get back a running service your AI can use right away.

What you can do with it

  • Start a Postgres or MariaDB database in seconds
  • Run a Redis, Valkey or Memcached store for a quick test
  • Launch a RabbitMQ message server
  • Spin up a small Alpine Linux machine (experimental full-networking mode)
  • Let your AI start and use a server as part of a task
  • Clean up everything by stopping Endor, with nothing left behind

What it gives back to you

You get back a short confirmation that the service is running, plus the details your AI needs to use it, like the port. Your AI can then talk to that service directly as part of the task. When you stop Endor, the service disappears and nothing stays on your machine. In the chat you mostly see the AI saying it started the server and then using it.

Before you start

What you need

  • Node.js installed on your computer (Endor runs anywhere Node is available)
  • An AI tool that supports MCP, like Claude Code, Cursor, VSCode, Windsurf or Goose CLI
  • Internet access the first time, to download the service images

Good to know

It starts real server programs on your computer, so only run it when you are okay with that, and remember the services are meant to be temporary.

Install it with your AI

Add Endor MCP server to your AI, no technical skills needed

You don't install anything by hand. You copy one prompt, paste it into an AI that can work on your computer, and it checks, installs and connects the server for you, asking you when it needs something.

Sign in to get the install prompt

Members get a ready-made prompt that lets the Claude desktop app check Endor MCP server, install it and connect it for them, step by step. You don't need any technical skills: you copy, paste and answer a few questions. Your connected AI can also find and install any of the 4,066 MCP servers here for you.
