PermisAPI MCP server

by Evan-Crx

Lets your AI look up French building permits, nearby sale prices, zoning and risks in plain language.

Flow diagram: you ask your AI “Show building permits on rue de Passy”, the PermisAPI MCP server connects it to PermisAPI, and you get back answer in chat.

This is a helper that connects your AI assistant to PermisAPI, a service that holds over 1.2 million French building permits from 2014 onwards. It is handy if you work in real estate, property investment or construction and you want quick answers about a plot, a street or a whole area. You ask in normal words and the AI brings back the details.

What is an MCP server? The 30-second version

On its own, your AI can only chat with you. An MCP server is a small helper program that gives your AI a new skill or a connection to an app or service. This one connects your AI to PermisAPI, so it can look up building permits, sale prices, zoning rules and risk data for you. You stay in the chat, and the AI does the looking up.

What this MCP server does

You type a question in normal words, like asking about permits on a street or the zoning of a specific permit. Your AI passes that request to this helper, which talks to the PermisAPI service. The service searches its database of French building permits and related open data, then sends the results back. Your AI turns those results into a readable answer in the chat, with lists, numbers or short explanations.

What you can do with it

  • Search French building permits by address, town or date
  • Get a property investor opportunity score with a plain French explanation of each signal
  • See sale prices per square metre for nearby properties over the last 12 years
  • Check the local urbanism zoning (PLU) for a permit
  • Look up natural and industrial risks for a plot
  • See whether a plot is empty or already built on
  • Find neighbouring plots around a permit to spot local activity
  • Estimate a construction budget range and find local building firms by trade

Try asking your AI

  • “List housing permits filed in Paris this month with an MDB score above 70”
  • “Find property investor opportunities around rue de Passy in Paris”
  • “What is the PLU zoning of permit 0930662500027”
  • “Show me the neighbouring plots within 200 metres of this permit”

What it gives back to you

You get answers written in the chat, usually as short lists, tables or summaries. For a search you get permit references, addresses and dates. For a score you get a number plus a French explanation of the signals behind it. For prices, zoning or risks you get the relevant figures and labels, and for a budget you get a euro range with a scenario.

Before you start

What you need

  • A PermisAPI key (a kind of password for the service; there is a free plan to start)
  • Python 3.10 or newer if you install it locally
  • The Claude desktop app or another app that supports MCP servers

Good to know

It reads public French data and does not change anything, but you need a paid plan for many of the tools, and the scores and budget estimates are guidance, not professional advice.

Install it with your AI

You don't install anything by hand. You copy one prompt, paste it into an AI that can work on your computer, and it checks, installs and connects the server for you, asking you when it needs something.
